wlan/router annoyance

Found a used router while looking at some other pre-owned stuff, a Linksys WRT54G. It's working really well with my PS3 after a couple tweaks (had to turn off media server, mostly). Got an error while using the Wii although that might have just been bad timing.

The problem is with my main comp, which is now connected via a CAT5. Downloads drop and need to be pause/resumed to get stable again. It's also gotten picky with anything that links to Youtube or the like. The DNS has been a bit picky on this services, but switching to OpenDNS had generally cleared that up. I'm not sure if I'm overlooking something.

Been thinking about this, shin...

And the only thing that I can think of when it comes to router issues is a much needed firmware update and setting reset...Have you done those things, and if so, were there any noticeable changes..?

I think it might be the cable, but it has been somewhat better lately.

I ran into some issues with the network adapter which probably didn't help. Everything else I looked up seems to be that a fancier model might work better as far as packet loss etc. , but probably not enough to where I shouldn't wait for them to get cheaper/the next generation to hit.

Who is your ISP shin..? Could it maybe be a problem with the system itself..? When my things get persnickety, I don't hesitate to call the ISP and have them come and test the line...I've had some intense issues I figured hard to be router issues, but both times it turned out that there was something wrong with the install itself...Some of these guys aren't great installers, and will take shortcuts on your system...You mayn't notice it until you're pulling down some G's, which may make it seem like it's related to a specific function...

It's a local group that gets most of their stuff from a bigger company, they did have some issues the past couple months. At the same time it seems like a lot of sites have run into DDoS attacks and the like. Seems as though I ran into a perfect storm of crap this past winter.
