That was just my point. At the end, my mom said some very hateful things that I'm sure were the result of the excruciating pain she was in. I can understand and forgive those comments, but I can never forget them because they hurt very deeply. Now my memory of my mom is tainted with those last moments where, though I loved her, I didn't like her very much. I know that she would never have wanted to speak those things out loud even if she believed them and meant them within herself.

Raum, if someone wants to end their life, that's their choice and they can do that if they want to. What I was saying was that they shouldn't pull someone into that like the doctor. Once you have someone else take your life that's murder. If they don't feel like living because of whatever reason, then they should take it themselves and not ask for a doctor to do it.

But Trash, the whole point is that most people who are suffering from debilitating disease are not able to "pull the plug" on themselves. Most people, even if they could, don't have the knowledge or the means to do so in a "humane" way. Chances are they'd end up doing more damage to themselves and not complete the task. I know my mom did not have the strength to have done anything the last 3 or 4 days of her life. I feel certain that her doctor would have been willing to assist her to the other side of life were he not restrained by the legalities. He as much as said so.

I would never dream of asking someone who opposed this action to help me do it. But at the same time, those doctors who are willing to do so shouldn't be punished for doing a favor to those in the last days of their lives.
