OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Randy Moss and Aaron Brooks

No. 1 pick Williams proving to be unfazed by hype
HOUSTON (AP) -- Mario Williams recently was photographed
in a nightclub sporting a glittering diamond and platinum grill.
He was just as surprised when reporters learned he had
bought the $1.5 million house of a former local university
president who was fired for allegedly refurbishing it with
school money. And he was clueless as to why people cared so
much about the removal of the toenails on his big toes.

I'm actually surprised by him. He's been doing a great job of proving himself in the preseason. Stats aren't saying much but he's been an influence on the line and that's a good thing

MRI on shoulder negative for Cardinals quarterback
Posted: Friday September 1, 2006 3:53PM
Leinart's injury not serious
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- An MRI on Matt Leinart's
injured right shoulder was negative, Arizona coach
Dennis Green said, and the rookie quarterback might
be available for the regular season opener Sept. 10.
"It's good news," Green said. Even if he is able to play,
Leinart, as the backup to starter Kurt Warner, would only
be called upon if Warner went down with an injury.

Starter's Luck
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- A sure sign of poise
from a rookie quarterback: Vince Young even lobbies
for instant-replay calls like a veteran.
Young was impressive in his first exhibition
start for the Tennessee Titans, consistently turning
third downs into first downs in a 35-21 victory over
the Green Bay Packers on Friday afternoon.

Raiders cut Jeff George
Posted: Saturday, September 2, 2006
Jeff George's attempted comeback into the NFL is over for now. George, who has not played in an NFL game since 2001, was among 20 players who were released or placed on injured reserve by the Oakland Raiders on Saturday.
Oakland signed George on Aug. 28 because of concern over the health of backup quarterback Andrew Walter, who has been nursing a sore right shoulder. But Walter, a third-round pick in 2005, played in the preseason finale against the Seahawks and showed no lingering effects of the injury, persuading the Raiders to part ways with George.

Roethlisberger to miss opener after appendectomy
PITTSBURGH, PA--Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had an emergency appendectomy after becoming ill before practice Sunday and will miss Thursday night's season opener against Miami.
Coach Bill Cowher is not certain how long Roethlisberger will be out following the quarterback's third operation in 10 months -- and second in 2†™¢¢¬…¡¢‚¬Å¡‚½ months. Roethlisberger began having pain and was vomiting Sunday morning, and was taken to UPMC Presbyterian for surgery after being examined by the team's medical staff.
Charlie Batch, the former Lions starter who was 2-0 as a fill-in last season when Roethlisberger hurt his knee, will start against the Dolphins in the NFL's first game of the season.

Texans Sign Ron Dayne
Posted: Sunday September 3rd
Dayne Agrees to One-Year Deal with Texans
HOUSTON, TX--The Houston Texans filled their need for a veteran tailback on Sunday evening, reaching agreement with six-year veteran Ron Dayne, who was released by the Denver Broncos one day earlier. Financial details of the one-year deal were not yet available, but the contract is likely for the minimum base salary.
Houston was forced to place starter Domanick Davis, the leading rusher in franchise history, on injured reserve Saturday because of lingering swelling in his left knee. Davis had missed all but the first few days of training camp and had not appeared in any preseason games.
The former University of Wisconsin star, and Heisman Trophy winner in 1999, was the first-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2000 draft. He started 11 games in his first two seasons with the Giants, and he averaged 730 rushing yards in 2000-2001, but has not rushed for more than 428 yards in a season since then. In 2005, his lone Denver season, Dayne rushed for 270 yards and one touchdown on 53 carries. Over the past three seasons, Dayne has logged only 105 carries and managed just 449 yards.
