I dont go see movies in the theatre- I'm morally opposed to $9-10 for a seat

Watched Secret Window with Johnny Depp last nite

Classic Hollywood twist at the end but it was a pretty good adaptation of a S King story by the director of Panic Room

Excellent

Mr. Brooks

IMDB Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780571/
Movie Site: http://www.theressomethingaboutmrbrooks.com/
HD Trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/mgm/mrbrooks/hd/

Synopsis: Earl Brooks (Kevin Costner) is a loving family man and a local business icon. But Mr. Brooks is deeply flawed and very aware of it...

My $0.02

<-- Pros --> This is one of those, 'Hmm, what's at the movies, what's at the movies,' kinda deals where you just want to be in the theater...Presented with what I thought was a bunch of 'meh' movies, I opted to see this...I figure Kevin Costner is a good actor, and there's never an excuse necessary to see Demi Moore...I was pretty impressed with the film..! It was not so much predictable, but you are forced to become engaged with this man who has a most unusual addiction...The film, even at its lower points, is brilliantly acted out...The story never really dragged, and for a 'thriller' I was quite shocked about that...Once you leave the theater, the thoughts of irony and the film digesting will leave you pleased...I smell sequel...

<-- Cons --> Towards the end there, there is a sequence involving Demi Moore that I didn't really care for...The movie is like the main character, methodical about how things are done, what it shows you...And at the end, as the film was wrapping up and you're in your 'Ooooh, I get it!' stage, you get hit w/a 'WTF!' moment...Not enough to ruin the film of course, but certainly seemed to not fit...It seems the producers were kinda bent on being able to have those doors opened...

Green Street Hooligans

IMDB Link: IMDB Green Street
Movie Site: greenstreethooligans
HD Trailer: Green Street Trailer

SYNOPSIS

GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS: In 1988, British director Alan Clarke set a high benchmark for movies about soccer hooliganism with a brutal, unflinching drama called THE FIRM. Few dared follow in Clarke's estimable footsteps. But filmmaker Lexi Alexander, who joined a gang of soccer thugs during her childhood in Germany, seems well placed to be the director of GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS, which returns to the controversial subject matter some 17 years after Clarke's film. Matt Buckner (Elijah Wood) is a student who travels to London after getting kicked out of Harvard. Ostensibly there to visit his sister, Matt instead forms an unlikely bond with her husband's brother, Pete Dunham (Charlie Hunnam), who takes him to a soccer match to see his team, West Ham. At the game, the inevitable happens, and Matt's initial trepidation at the violence swelling around him soon turns into a pulse-racing, visceral thrill. Suddenly finding a taste for the hooligan life, Matt joins Pete's "firm," the Green Street Elite, leading to further booze-fueled confrontations and providing an opportunity for Matt to keep a journal explaining why he's attracted to such a violent pursuit.

Surprisingly, Elijah Wood manages to fit perfectly into a role that seems ill-suited to his elfin, wide-eyed looks. British actor Charlie Hunnam, who starred in the U.K. version of QUEER AS FOLK and TV's UNDECLARED, neatly complements Wood as the Cockney boy who leads him into danger, and together the two actors manage to carve out convincingly violent characters. A loud, energetic soundtrack and roaming, trembling camera work create a disquieting atmosphere in a movie punctuated with scenes of rampant brutality. Sensibly not trying to ape Alan Clarke's approach to the subject matter, Alexander has instead created a very effective work built on her own experience.

I have to say that I love this thread so much and it is my current favorite on this forum!
It helps me SO SO much so that I know what I'm downloading before I start downloading any movies! Especially with my fucking slow internet here (35 KB/S download speed!)

Anybody who has seen "Sense and Sensibility", please can you write a review about it?
It is better to try and fail than to fail to try.

EASTERN PROMISES is a new flick by David Cronenberg I viewed recently. Viggo Mortensen stars as a driver for the Russian mob, and it really is one of his best performances. He has a fight scene which he performs completely nude, and it's a great credit to Cronenberg that you hardly even notice -- really well done.

Naomi Watts, shockingly enough, keeps her clothes on in this film. Not the biggest fan of hers, but she's solid as a well-meaning nurse trying to unravel the death of a young Russian girl forced into a life as a sex worker.

Very gritty stuff, but fascinating if you're up for it.

Sunshine

:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

This is by the guy who did Trainspotting. It is the worse movie I have seen in 3 years.

Synopsis:

A great crew of actors and actresses get stuck in a horrid movie that is mostly disjointed ambient music, horrible lights, inplausible sequence of events, foolish dialogue spat by lousy roles, and are subjected to overexposure of stock NASA footage.

Cons:
I watched it.
I PAID to rent it.
Made no sense.
Was far too boring for a movie trying to be suspenseful.
Lack of any scientific research.
Full of loopholes.
Captain Cancer is naked.

Pros:
Everyone Dies.
Movie goes off without having to smash TV.
When I take it back, I am rid of it.
