At some point, maybe the next big name person that gets caught doing steroids will come out and say the right thing...And that is, "I did it, kiss my ass...Please...Kiss my ass..."
We are in an information, sensationalist era where not just privileged people, but almost anyone can take up trying to find out something and do it...A-Rod should have never hired a fucking PR team to go up there and do what he did...Every day since he had his press conference, the media has taken to filling out the holes in his story...First day, they found out the name of the cousin...And today, they have linked him...Through the cousin...To a notorious steroid peddler....They are now saying that the 'off the shelf' product A-Rod says he got from the DR...Can't be bought off the shelf...
Dude, you are rich and good looking, if not the smartest motherfucker...If you take the asshole route, people will get sick of you faster, drop the story faster, not care faster...FORGET faster...Now, everyone is wanting to make a mint to drop dime on you...And if you're looking for something, you will certainly find it...
Your legacy is over...Pure and simple...Over...Even if you make it to the hall, they will have built an extra wing on the damn thing to put members of the so called 'steroids era' and that's just like a grown man bragging to have the biggest johnson at the urinal with 3rd graders...
Players will disagree with it...The 'clean' ones...Some fans might disagree with it...The 'pure' ones...But the rational ones will remember that before 'roids raged on the field in the form of Sammy and Mark, the story in baseball was how empty the damn seats were...They brought fans back to the game...They want to talk about taking these guys numbers, what about these owners paying back some of the revenues..? And baseball in general..? Fuck off with that talk man..! It's ridiculous...
Let me give my clear position on steroids...Until a slew of scientific study comes out that shows you can take the average man off the street, pump a few steroids in him, and he can then go out and hit a Lyncecum fast ball, I will care that they did it...
If your arm hurts...And it hurts BAD...And you take something for the pain...Is that cheating..? Why not..? Every knock on roids I've ever heard is that it gives an unfair advantage...
People too critical of the steroid era are very inconsistent...There is no era in baseball that is without its own controversy...More importantly, without any real scrutiny necessary, I can promise you this...The Hall of Fame is already full of bad fathers...Bad husbands...Bad brothers...Bigots...Racists... Liars...Cheaters....So, whether you feel one way or the other, realistically, society as a whole is responsible for the demons we raise...
I hope A-Rod manages to work his way through this, but I truly believe he's FUBAR, still trying to be a guy that society accepts...If you come out and be someone they can tear down no further, who nobody cares about, the story ends....Concentrate on baseball, be a great player, and the rest will take care of itself...
Maybe the next one will get it right...

Well I think it's pretty much proven that steroids help you perform better. Canseco would never have been a MLB player without em and Bonds, Sosa and McGuire wouldn't have come close to any records without em. Just the drop off in homerun production the last few years proves they had an effect. But can the average guy take them and become a player?....no.
Do I give a shit about any of these guys taking them? Nah not anymore. I think they all took something and A-Rod shoulda just have said "yeah I took em so I wouldn't be left behind by the other guys taking them. It was the culture then and I apologize for trying to keep my job".

I agree dl1...Everyone is coming out saying shit like they're sorry...If I'm a race car driver...And NoS is outlawed...But everyone that's winning is using it...Do I A) Use it or B) Go broke...I think its pretty evident that throughout the history, baseball has had its questionable calls...Shit that wasn't illegal then, that's illegal now, the players were using...If it helps a little, its cheating, just like anything else...No one sin is greater than the other in this instance IMO...Amphetamine use was rampant back in the day...Nobody mentions that in the same breath as the steroid shit, and they should...
I just don't know why its so hard for some to accept the sport in context and leave this shit alone...I'm SO tired of the steroids shit already...

I'm gonna have to disagree on the "being an a-hole" will make people forget you faster. Look at Bonds, he was one of the biggest A-holes in baseball, yet years later everyone's still trying to bury the guy. A-Rod was in a lose-lose situation. It didn't matter what reason he gave, it didn't even matter if he told the truth, the fact that he took PE's put him on "the list" of guys people want to take down. He pretty much was on that list already, but he was like a holy grail to many baseball purists who want cry out their holier-than-thou attitude.
I do agree that those same people are quite the Hippocrates in saying all these guys don't deserve to be in the HOF because of the "morality" clause in the voting. While the PE's may have inflated some of their stats, guys like Bonds, Clemens and A-Rod are still great players. Did they cheat, sure. Did the stuff help, no doubt. Kumicho said it best in that you can't just pump an avg. guy full of 'roids and expect him to dominate, or even make a pro team. IMO 'roids makes the biggest difference in the fringe guys. Guys like Canseco, who would have only had a modest career at best, but got to hang around due to his steroid use. Roids won't make you hit the ball, hit it harder maybe, but not the end all to hitting.
And all this talk about throwing out numbers, that's just plain nonsense. Every era had it's embarrassments. I don't hear any crying about Babe Ruth not playing against any Black or Latin players. All you can say is "shit happened, move on" and work to clean-up the sport. If that means higher standards for the HOF for fringe guys like Mike Mussina and others who played in the last 20 or so years, too bad. Even if they didn't use, they all turned a blind eye to what was going on around them. Everyone. Players, the union, owners, and most of all Bud Selig. He was smart in a way to let it go and reap the rewards and watch the MLB grow. But to now claim no responsibility? Give me a break. Just how does he think his salary rose to 16-18 million dollars last year?
People just need to move on. You can't change the past. You can only shape the future.
Another thing I don't get. Why is no one, not the league, the player's union, the players them selves, upset that some one intentionally BROKE THE LAW to release A-Rod's name? And why was everyone ok with the fact the reporter even admitted that once she got A-Rod's name, she didn't care about the other names? If it was such a big story, why not try and get as many names as possible?

The thing that bothers me IS those other 103 guys. The names WILL leak out eventually one at a time and everytime one does we'll have to listen to all the moral higher than thou press attacks we get with the A-Rod scandal. Just get em all out let a year pass and it'll be over. He screwed up like 90% of the other guys trying to keep up with the Jones'. Get over it, it's pro sports! It's unfortunate but they're all trying to get an edge and win and make the big bucks.
It was like when the Pats got busted and singled out for being the only team in Football to ever try and gain an edge. It happens all over and not just in sports. Welcome to earth people it isn't the first time someone cheated and it won't be the last. I'm sick to death of it!
