Are you good at Math Formulas..?

On RiP, we have a system to calculate/measure how effective a member is...Currently, each user has board statistics...This is more or less, a 'pound for pound' rating...It is currently calculated as this...

Code: Select all

1) -- your images divided by images the current userbase posted, result multiplied by 1000
2) -- your posts divided by posts the current userbase posted, result multiplied by 1000
3) -- your given thanks divided by total thanks the current userbase received, result multiplied by 100
4) -- all ratios added totwards each other = your ratio
The factors to be considered:
  • Join Date
    Posts
Thanks In (The number of times you have been thanked for a post)
Thanks Out (The number of times you thank someone for a post)
    Images Posted
    Reputation
Going by that list, our number one pound for pound user is big lu...He has:

big lu

Thanks Out: 1241

Total Ratio: 56.178

For those curious, I'm #39 w/a 10.817 total ratio... :D

Just for fun, how would you calculate it..? What are some other ways the value can be determined..? What would you think need be included..?

Me, for example, I would include the number of threads started, and if it were possible, a way to crunch totals...I don't post lots of images...But I have posts that have well over 1 GB of data in them, like my InTheCrack stacks...

I seem to recall RiP was some elite porn posting club - someone will correct me.

Kind of interesting... with that kind of metric applied to members I'm interested to know how a member would stay in the group.

I mean, you'd almost have to spend every waking moment of the day posting porn to not get kicked out. Have I got it wrong? To say nothing of how you'd get access to so much stuff.

It's interesting to bother counting worth. What are the benefits of a RiP membership - other than mountains of porn?

Not bagging, everyone has their clubs and societies and whatnot, just that it's got my interest. I mean what benefit does RiP have that someone couldn't get from checking google for the multitudes of free porn boards out there? And what benefit does one get from being an "effective" member?

I suppose knowing these answers would help somewhat to gauge what metric should be used to value a members worth.

Otherwise, from the calculations you've posted, it would seem big lu doesn't get out much?

I'm decidely averse to the entire prospect of formulaic participation extraction.

I wouldn't calculate threads started for the reason that I've known other boards where some members just whore themselves out and start meaningless threads just to attract attention. Also, I don't personally start alot of threads because most of the topics that I adhere to have already been created by others, and I contribute there if I can. Moreover, I have had experiences elsewhere in which I noticed certain members would spend as much as 18 hours online just chatting up the forums, and I suppose they were considered "top-tier" contributors; I, however, have a tendency to drop offline for up to half the year, so what I bring to the table really shouldn't be based on when I joined the forum, and what my post count is per day.

I don't really like such statistics that measure a members' worth because it kinda devalues what an individual personally can bring to a community. If one such member doesn't start any threads at all, but finds & fulfills nearly every request other members put forth to him, restrictive formulas as the one issued above would label this person as a "sub-par contributor". I suppose most boards evaluate this by a user's post count, but unless there is moderator continually checking the content of every post, it is an imperfect process trying to establish a hierarchy of community members.

We live in an overmeassured world to be worried about how much porn one dude uploads, It's ok if you want to have a number to calificate members but you'll commit a lot of unfair assignations.
Besides, good reputation and a certain respect from other members are way better than rank numbers imho.

Anyway I'll calculate something like: (thanks in*3 + thanks out/3) / number of post

Well, just to throw it out there, the stats aren't that important when we evaluate members...In fact, they have very little to do with it it...Each member is evaluated on a bunch of different qualities that merit being called an 'Elite' which is sort of how we do our Gold Group....

This is just something done for fun more or less...

zap, I don't know how, but I don't remember seeing your first post..! At any rate, rate is a community much like this one...It does have its foundations in the pr0n world...That's how I got there anyway... :D

You get to be elite by displaying elite qualities...Courteous, helpful, respectful...You can have 500,000 pictures posted, but if you're an asshole, you'll never be elite...In fact, some of the most prolific posters in RiP's history have never been elite...I got to be elite, I guess, based on the quality of my posts and my technical savvy...

We have specialized tools for both ripping and posting websites...Once the images are on your HDD, you can run one of RiP's tools and it will post space the thumbs, generate the code, you name it...Lots of guys have access to press sites, we have a team of crackers and pass posters, a programming team to develop hacks...It has the largest DB in vBulletin history, its just full of shit man...

Being an elite member gets you the distinction, and on top of that, access to the Elite section...But more than anything else, its just kinda the 'best of the best' thing going on...

Fair enough :)

Interesting to hear of the lengths you guys have gone to to make it so :)

An automated or proforma posting set of tools would be handy as it takes a not insignificant amount of time to post images. Even getting the BBcode right can be painful.
