Eating while driving causes 80% of all car accidents, study shows

Eating and/or drinking in the car is responsible for a staggering 80 percent of auto accidents, a new study shows.
Wait till you get home to eat that drive-thru.
A new study shows a staggering 80% of all car accidents and 65% of near misses are caused by distracted drivers more focused on their burgers than the road.
"Distractions like eating can become a problem for drivers who can't react quickly to a sharp curve," according to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In addition to burgers, the study has ranked the worst foods to eat behind the wheel based on a survey of drivers.
Coffee is the worst, bringing new meaning to the adage "don't drink and drive."
"Even with a travel lid, hot coffee can find its way out of the opening when you hit a bump," the study said.
The study puts the other culprits in this order: soup, tacos, chili dogs, hamburgers, ribs and wings, fried chicken, jelly doughnuts, soda and chocolate.
On-the-go New Yorkers contend you can drive and eat, and they won't stop multitasking.
"When I'm at a light, I take a bite," said Lisa Perez, 29, of Fort Lee, N.J.
Dee Kesney, 24, of East New York, Brooklyn, acknowledged that biting into a hamburger while driving can pose a challenge.
"With the burger, the pickle might fall out and you might reach for that pickle," he said.
In a separate study of 1,000 drivers, ExxonMobil Corp. discovered more than 70% of drivers eat while driving - and 83% drink beverages.

I don't believe this...Cell phone use has to contribute more...Just about all of my close calls have been due to my lack of cell phone discipline...

Um I'm not the kinda personality who is going to respond positively to a blatant, judgmental "fuck you" positively, but sorry for your loss.

Hmm, it's not judgmental...Everything I stated was fact...I'm the king of multi tasking...But I will admit its hard for me to write stories when I'm sitting still, going 0 MPH, and talking on the phone at the same time...It's dangerous, and as I said, you need all of your senses to operate a vehicle...You disagree with that..?

So, you don't need to respond...Just act like you know better from now on... :)

What if I went into the stacks and posted a link (and nothing more) that said Fuck You and Your Porn and then went on to say how porn ruined my marriage?

I agree with you , but objectifying somebody by just posting a link like that doesn't do it for me.

When I mean close call for me, I mean starting to veer onto the shoulder a little on a quiet backroad. I have never actually had a close call bc of cell phone use...I never talk on my phone if I am driving in unfamiliar areas and rarely do it if I am in a busy area or busy time of day. I am not saying it is right, but sheesh, I do break the law in a responsible way lol, and again, I am not arguing with you, but I don't know how you would expect anything other than a defensive, hostile response to a post/link like that, even if it is true...

Dude, am I the only one that can give an accurate analogy around here..? :p I gave several reasons behind my harsh words, let alone a picture of my aunt's mutilated car..? How is what you said above even remotely relevant or similar..? Every person with the proper credentials has a right to be on the road...And those people have the right to be on the road and not be put in any unnecessary risk while doing so...Again, as I said in the flame, what conversation could you be having that would be worth your vehicle, your life, or the life of someone else..? That's not objectification, that's the truth...

So, umm...You don't have to be defensive...Unless you agree that my aunt dying that way is somehow excusable..? You're supposed to read it and go, "Damn, I wonder if I've been on the phone having a bullshit conversation while driving..? Gonna have to pay more attention to it from now on..." It's called "empathy" my friend...

Whatever, man. We are not going to see eye to eye here. To me, posting that link and nothing more is an obvious, scolding guilt trip for using my phone when I drive. From your response, it is clear that you meant it to trigger a different thought process.

Shit man, you said it, I didn't...I'm just reminding you/guilt tripping/bitching whatever you want to call it, to at least have you think about it...So if the next time you're in your car and you see a call come through and its not important, you think to yourself,

''Damn, if A was in the backseat he'd probably hit me in the back of the head...Probably hurt too...Yeah...It'd definitely hurt..."

"Hey, uh...Let me call you back when I get to the crib..."
