Tebow Released From Kentucky Hospital
POSTED: Sunday, September 27, 2009
UPDATED: 2:34 pm EDT September 27, 2009
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was out of the hospital and on his way home Sunday, about 12 hours after sustaining a concussion during the team's 41-7 victory at Kentucky.
Tebow was released from the University Medical Center in Lexington, Ky., Sunday morning. He was held for precautionary reasons. Coach Urban Meyer spent the night in the hospital with Tebow.
"Tim is doing fine this morning," Meyer said. "His CT scans came back and indicated that Tim suffered a concussion. Our medical and athletic training staff will continue to monitor him to determine how much rest and recovery he needs. We will have additional information and updates this week."
Tebow was expected back in Florida later Sunday.
The top-ranked Gators (4-0) are off next week, then play at LSU on Oct. 10. It might be several days, maybe even longer, before Tebow's status becomes clearer for what could be the toughest game on the defending national champions' schedule.
It would be even tougher without Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and the heart and soul of the Gators.
But his release surely was welcome news for Florida fans who watched Tebow lay motionless on the field at Commonwealth Stadium.
"Everyone is concerned about Tim, and our thoughts and our prayers are with him and his family," said associate head coach and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, who filled in for Meyer on the head coach's television show Sunday.
The Gators were leading 31-7 in the third quarter and were driving deep in Kentucky territory when defensive end Taylor Wyndham came unblocked off the right end and sacked Tebow. As Tebow fell backward, his helmet struck teammate Marcus Gilbert's leg, violently bending his neck forward.
Teammates and trainers rushed to Tebow's side, but several minutes passed before the quarterback sat up with help and then slowly made his way off the field. Florida's medical staff attended to him on the bench, and his parents came down from the stands to join him.
He started vomiting -- a common symptom of concussions -- and was carted off the field. About a dozen Gators fans showed up at the hospital after the game, standing outside in the rain and wishing the best for Tebow.
The injury ended what had been another impressive performance from the senior. He ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 103 yards and a score -- numbers that seemed unimportant the second he hit the turf.
Oddly, his day began with questions about his health.
Tebow was one of several Gators who took a separate plane to Lexington because of respiratory and congestion issues, leading to speculation he wouldn't play.
If Tebow wasn't feeling well, it didn't show. He walked off the field following pregame warmups trading head slaps with teammate Brandon Spikes and nearly sprinted into the huddle on Florida's first possession.
The Gators scored 31 points in the first quarter and had the game in hand when Tebow got hit in the third quarter.
Meyer probably will face questions about why he still had his superstar on the field in a lopsided game, especially considering Tebow had missed two days of practice because of a respiratory illness.
But the Gators sputtered in the second quarter against Kentucky and struggled in the passing game last week against Tennessee.
And pulling Tebow is always tough because he wants to play every down. Typically, the bruising 245-pound quarterback jumps to his feet after big hits -- some even harder than Wyndham's sack.
"He's a tough nut," Meyer said after the game. "We think he's going to be fine."
Added Spikes: "I'm pretty sure he's going to get himself together."

LSU looked shaky, barely winning @ Miss. State this weekend...I'm pretty sure they got caught looking ahead to that Florida game, which may end up with Florida loosing, already w/Tim hurt and playing in Death Valley at night, where the Tigers are usually very tough...Gonna be interesting, that's for sure...

I just can't believe how many teams are losing this year. It's not even like the top ten teams aren't good...its that everyone seems to really be kicking it into high gear....as is the case in CF I suppose.
I was sad to see my Canes get their asses handed to them.
The way LSU looked this weekend makes me believe Florida is gonna wipe the floor with them.
How do you guys see the top ten shaking out....considering what 4-6 and 9 lost?

Re: 2009 NCAA Football Thread
More than that I think...With the exception of Texas and Alabama, everyone else looks like they can loose at any given time...
But all this chaos is screaming one thing...Playoff is NECESSARY...Rankings just don't mean shit...Washington didn't win shit last year, came up, beat USC, and then got drug by fucking Stanford...Now watch, when USC plays Stanford, they're going to beat them by 30, and we'll be up shit's creek...Oregon beat Cal like they stole something, Florida State went to the mountains and beat BYU, and then got beat this week by South Florida...
I think what we know about each time so far is true...I just think there's a serious lack of gap in the competition...No longer are there walk overs in college...The spread has equalized the playing field, teams are utilizing what they have like never before...I don't give a shit, as long as my team doesn't get fucked over like they did last year, I'll go with what we got...

Glad to see Oregon back in the top 25. And what the hell is up with Washington? Beating USC one week and then getting crushed by Stanford the next? Wow....

Re: 2009 NCAA Football Thread
Dude I'm sure he's thanking everything he can think of to thank that he didn't die. Football goes on the backburner when you're dropping over 200 pounds directly on to your neck/throat.
I've had the bar slip when I was benching, and my spotter didn't catch it, but actually kinda pushed it while attempting to catch it and one half landed directly on my thigh/quad.....mannn I had explosiveness problems stemming from that incident for like 2 years....and that was back when I was a freshman, so I wasn't really putting up a whole ton of weight....I can't even imagine what its like to have double the weight go down on your neck.
A lot of comments are attributing it to using the suicide (thumbless) grip. I know I have always and always wrap my thumb around the bar...but this should be incentive to everyone else to do the same!
As far how it effects USC...aside from the initial concern for their teammate...I'm sure a lot of those other 5 RB's are happy to see some possible time open up.
I just don't even understand how if you're such a highly touted RB, enough so to go to USC...why you would do so knowing you'd be one of six dudes spilting time....I know USC is a pro factory, but damn....I mean Garrett Wolfe plays for the Chicago Bears and he went to Northern Illinois....like why wouldn't you go somewhere else and rip it up as the number 1 guy?

Re: 2009 NCAA Football Thread
Yeah see, that's what I was wondering, how the fuck did he drop the shit on his neck...With a spotter..? I'm back lifting weights now, and from what I know now, to what I remember when I worked out w/the college football team, is that the sole purpose of a spotter is to prevent this type of thing...I don't know shit about a suicide grip, but if its called a suicide grip, I'm not fucking with it anyway...There isn't an advantage in the world that can be gained by not having your damn thumb on the bar in lieu of dropping dead weight on your neck...
Several reasons bud...Especially when it comes to USC....Drew wrote:like why wouldn't you go somewhere else and rip it up as the number 1 guy?
- The first reason is that Los Angeles is without a professional football team, and they're not even looking for one...On my list of mecca's for the world's most amazing women, Los Angeles is probably #1 or tied with South Florida...Every respectable football groupie, male or female, worships USC...Trust me, we don't know these guys, but everyone in L.A. does...Matt Leinhart hanging with Nick Lachey, Reggie Bush on the red carpet as a Junior...You leave H.S. and go pro, essentially...
- The second reason is that you're going to the league, or you're at least getting a shot a the league...Pete can almost guarantee it...Whether you play or not, Pete can make a call and have it happen for you...
- They win, and they win often...USC drafts pro players, if you even get a scholarship from them, you've got more than a foot in the door to the NFL...
- No position in Pro Sports has a shorter life span than the running back...If you're the number one guy in college, you're likely to have been the #1 guy in H.S....You get to the league with double the miles on your body that you would have had, if you had been the Lendale to my Reggie, or the Spiller to my Davis...You get to show your shit on a national stage on a regular basis, you almost always look great doing it, and you're not banged up...Remember, there were NFL teams (dumb fucks, yes but) that passed on Adrian Peterson for that simple reason...You go to USC, run a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash, bench press like crazy, and they look at your stats, you might only have 350 yards, but when you're average 7 yards a carry and you go to USC, everyone knows or at least assumes you could have been the #1 guy anywhere in the country, but you went to USC...Plus, they run pro style offense, so those numbers are a little more solid than a guy putting up huge numbers in a spread or a small conference...
- Ron Dayne, Anthony Thomas, Curtis Enis, and the rest of those dudes killing it in college that got to the NFL and took a shit on the field...
