Call of Duty: Black Ops

Check out this trailer: http://www.ign.com/videos/2010/11/01/ca ... ch-trailer

I'm very interested as I have been a Call of Duty player with the original and Call of Duty 4, both for the PC. However, this will be my first stepping onto a console as a do not game on a PC anymore. I'll be testing this bad boy out on a PS3 - renting it the day it comes out.

Looks good but not sure how I will handle not using a keyboard and mouse.

Well, here's an IGN review of the game: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1133112p1.html

I did rent it and found out...FPS games are not meant to be on consoles. It is just a bit too much of a change to move from a mouse and keyboard to using my thumbs and poor default configuration on the controller. For some reason R1 is the trigger, L1 is the zoom and the square button is the reload? WTF?

I am sure that I could change the controls to my liking but moving my thumbs around for fast twitch gaming just doesn't feel right.

Not to mention, the game is lacking. The graphics were very unimpressive for a PS3 game. I have seen a LOT better. The guns are a joke and don't even sound impressive. This game is definitely not worth buying.

It also doesn't bring anything new to the table that we already haven't seen in other modern combat shooters. It's the same old boring thing, which is bad considering how advanced Bad Company 2 was. IGN gave it an 8.5 overall? I give it a 1.0.

bad company is basically battle field. Hence the name. They are two different types of shooters.

Call of duty is a twitch based shooter where as Battle field leans to be more realistic with bullets dropping over distance.

Shooters can be played on anything. It just takes time to learn them.

I've read most people adjust the sensitivity? I still can't do it. It's muscle memory for a FPS. My left hand on the keyboard controlled reload, forward, backward, strafing, jumping and my right hand controlled the aim, firing and zooming. I can't adjust from 8 years of keyboard and mouse for FPS.

I saw there is a supposed Eagle Eye USB keyboard/mouse converter for the PS3 here: http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Mouse-Keybo ... 0040UAYI4/

Some people say it's good, others not so good.

I played a bit of this last night with some buddies and I liked the way it played a lot more than Halo, which is the other shooter we tend to play currently. I'm still not very good with the aiming because I don't own the games or play that often, but I definitely enjoyed the strategy involved with the team deathmatches.

Giving it a 1.0 just because you're not used to the controls seems a bit harsh tho...

No, it's a 1.0 based upon poor graphics, unoriginal gameplay, dull storyline and very poor sound effects. I've fired several real guns in my life including an M-16A2, M-4 and AK-47. The guns in Black Ops sound extremely weak.

I'm just severely unimpressed given the past of Call of Duty.

The default game controls are just my personal dislike. I found lowering the sensitivity on the joystick to the lowest setting allowed me to move around properly. I saw where you can change the button config as well.

Here's a video where you can hear the guns in actual Gameplay of Black Ops: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmU44YHEesE

Here's a video of an actual AK-47 being fired. Note: Yes the barrel on that gun gets THAT hot in real life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNAohtjG14c

Here's an AR-15 (M-4 equivalent) and AK-47 being fired together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxIiVkHrhyg

Here's a pair of M-249 SAWs being fired at the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCra4qOrjFw

Now, here is gunfire from the game Battlefield Bad Company 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j4UcYkkiiA

Now do you see why Black Ops is a let down? There just isn't any polish to it.

I never get the internet of a franchise gameplay being unoriginal. I don't go into a franchise thinking every game should play differently. Halo plays like Halo. Gears plays like Gears. Cod Plays like COD.

Do people on the internet really want Halo to play like GEARS?
