As one who's had to re-install Windows XP twice due to 1 virus and one unexplained crash, I'd love to hear more about that. I get by, but I need to learn so much more.

QUOTE(emanon)The absolute number one windows xp tip (that I learned the very hard way) is that if you are going to use the NTFS file system's encrypt feature, be absolutely positively sure you have designated a recovery agent, and exported your recovery certificates to a non-encrypted external storage device.  Exporting the recovery certificates to an encrypted folder will NOT help you decrypt your 22.4 GB of data after you re-install your operating system.  There is copious information regarding this process on the microsoft website.  I can summarize and post a tutorial if there is enough interest.  I could also outline how the aforementioned data was recovered even after all official microsoft resources said it was impossible.

I have had that happen to me before M8, man was it a drag...I burned encrypted date to a DVD and formatted, thinking that it was unencrypted, and or could be when I copied the files to my PC and imported my user key...I think that's teh first time that I cried over my PC...
