Most teams have around 39 games left. So that'll put us mid way through September that playoffs start I believe

Baseball... where most teams are out before the allstar break and then the home field advantage gets decided in a game that means nothing to anyone. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Ugh... it annoys me how home field advantage is decided by the All-Star game... it should be decided based on record, you know, like most sports... lol

Are you serious? How many games does each team play?

They play 162 games. And I love how the All-Star Game actually means something now, it's good for the game. And RR, only 6 teams were out of contention at the All-Star break this year. 6 out of 32...that sure sounds like most to me too

There are 162 games in the regular season. I completely agree about the All-star game deciding who gets home field in the world series. If the game really mattered then the players should play it that way. They still played like it was an exhibition game. No signs, no matchups, and Garner blew it this year so it's bogus especially for the fans of the team with the best record in the world series. Pennants are not decided in August. There's still a whole lot of baseball that needs to be played so the standings can completely change when the regular season is through. If my Dodgers can get over the Cardinals then they have a very good shot at the World Series. I think with a rotation of Maddux, Penny, and Lowe the Dodgers will give the Mets an extremely difficult time. Playoffs don't start until October.

The allstar game means nothing to the players. Are you going to seriously tell me Carl Crawford of the MLB turd Tampa Bay Devil Rays give a damn who has home field for the World Series?

And, just because only 6 were mathmatically out of it, doesn't mean 20 weren't common sense out of it.

Like who? Even at the All-Star Break the Tigers were expected to blow their lead and not be in first place. Teams were all in it and you really can't deny that. And no, maybe Carl Crawford didn't care, but that's only one player. All of the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, White Sox, A's, Angels, and even the Blue Jays cared for the AL. The list is huge for the NL also. Even if they have the slightest chance of making it, they want to make their odds good when they are there. Plus, it's good to know that the teams in your league is better than the other league so that would be another reason

The Allstar game is professional Little League where every player gets 3 outs and an AB. It means nothing more than the Pro Bowl means.

Asfor who is out of it... I don't follow teams records that closely, but it is no secret who is going to the playoffs and who is looking for plane tickets come allstar weekend.

I don't watch baseball....and even I know that by allstar break....it isn't common sense.

The predictions are usually easy to make....but that doesn't mean they come true....baseball is one of those sports where there are hot streaks and slumps all over.....only sport I've seen where a team can lose 7 in a row...and then turn around and win 12....its crazy.

While I don't think the all-star game deciding home field advantadge is as awful as some people here do.....I think we all will agree that it COULD be done better....record wise.....but if that's the way they set it up...I'm not complaining too loudly.
