I have a somewhat similar belief in fate as what LG has said. But raum your post reminds me of that quote from shakesphere about the world being a stage. Dont remember the exact thing at the moment though.

Instead of questioning fate and destiny the focus should be more on your purpose with the time you have been given. God puts obstacles infront of you to force you to make decisions and those decisions that you make in your life will in the end dictate your purpose. So take advantage of every opportunity God gives you and let his will be your destiny and your fate...

גד is where the word God came from.
it is, ironically,
a. The seed of the coriander plant. (Gad, rhymes with "mad")
b. The bablylonian Deity of good fortune. (Gahd, rhymes with "odd")
c. attack, overcome (sounds like "Good")
d. "troop", the name of a Magus-Prophet in the court of David. (Ha Beth Gawd was "The House of God", named for the Prophet, not the deity. This is the first usage.) He was named for the seventh son of jacob. (Gawd, rhymes with "loud")
Simularly, the word גד is the ancient Hebrew word for "Luck, Fate, or Destiny"
Thus God IS Destiny.
El is *who* has authored God.
There is no difference.

I just googled a bit and found this. I didn't learn it online, as there were not personal computers when i was kid. but this is accurate.
edit sidenote: SHD in this artical means "Strong's (Biblical) Hebrew Dictionary." Strongs is the most well-resected and available concordances and dictionaries of biblical study and research. They are, for all general purposes, definitive.
