this is one of those things people don't realize.
you pass him.
he "gets a feeling" or "is bored" or "is having a moment"
if you passed him, and stuck right in front of him, you put your ass out there.
he runs your tags BEFORE he stops you.
they look for something wrong.
expired tags,.. uh oh. what is up with that. unsafe car, not the owner, maybe he's black,.. *whatever* let's stop him. -lights on-
the reason everyone else went in a different direction was you mentioned so much about speed in the original post.
they won't pull everyone over for expired tags, but i have never seen a logic to who they will and won't. Still, he might have had some racial modifier, but if you let your tags run dry, you give him a valid reason to pull you over.
For the record, my dad was given a ticket for expired tags by a friend that used to ride motorcycles with him. My babe was yanked by a cop in San Francisco for having out of state tags when she was in college. Now that was funcked! He towed her car, and dropped us on the corner, because she was a student from New Jersey and had her ID there, but she was in California for too long.
He totally trapped her *writing on tablet*, "so how long you been living in California?" She answered "two years." At that point she was in deep. She should have answered "I don't live in California, but I have been going to school here for two years." But from here answer, he pulled her car, and gave her a ticket for out of state tags, driving without a license (by his fucked sense of logic, her NJ id was not valid for a California Resident)
It cost over three hundred dollars to get her car back, and she still didn't get a california ID. See, the apartment was in her mother's name, the bills were in her dad's. After all that, she had no proof of California residence, and shouldn't have had to pay.
and don't even get me started on the 700 dollars I had to pay even though the car was a rental, and the cruise control didn't work hitting a 4000 foot drop leaving cali for the last time. (but i couldn't make my court date, and that was clocked at 107, when i was only going about 90.)
cops can be dicks if you're white too...

Oh no doubt, black or white, cops tend to suck major ass...
@ Kramer
That's exactly my point...What was he running my tags for..? I wasn't speeding, and I passed by him on the right hand side going faster than him...He would have had to be Alan Quartermain to fucking spot an expired tag ticket at that speed and distance...
I passed him, he sped up just enough to find something to pull me over for...Totally ridiculous waste of time...And the fucked part is that he gave me the ticket, and then says to me that the judge will dismiss it...Why write the damn ticket then..? Why not just put a thing in the system noting that I'd been pulled over for an expired tag...
And its not like my plates were out for six months and shit, they were a month late, and the county my truck is registered in is a 3 hour ride away damn near...You can't call and pay for your plates over the phone, you actually have to go to the shitty place and manually get the sticker...
Ridiculous...

Like raum said, you passed him, so he probably decided to follow you for a bit. I've had cops follow me and my brother for no reason. After a few blocks of running our ass, the car turns down a side street. You gave him an excuse to pull you over with your expired tags. And it doesn't really matter if the judge is likely to throw the ticket out, it's still the cop's job to write it up.

QUOTEThat's exactly my point...What was he running my tags for..?
A lot of cops run random plates to check for stolen cars, no insurance, etc. It's a pretty common thing whether you are white or black. They would get their ass handed to them if a stolen car passes them and they don't realize it. They run plates to make sure something like that doesn't happen

A person driving a stolen car wouldn't pass a cop...
And I passed him going the speed limt...If you want to be technical, he was the dick driving in the wrong lane, shit, it was broad daylight, I saw him way before he saw me...This is a US Highway, not an Interstate, someone doing something wrong could have turned off easy...
IMO, the place to write tickets for expired tags is in a parking lot...A cop shouldn't need an excuse to pull someone over, if that was the case, you'd have a shitload of people getting tickets left and right for a series of minor violations...When's the last time you saw someone get pulled over for driving in the rain w/o their headlights on, or pulling a trailer that doesn't have working brake lights..? Getting pulled over for goinb 69 in a 65..?
Traffic laws were generally made and enforced to promote safety, am I correct..? We all know cops work to meet a quota, how fair is that to a citizen..? And more importantly, what if I can't pay the fucking ticket..? If it were a menial fine, sure, whatever...But we're talking an excess of $100...Insane, and should fucking be illegal IMO...

QUOTE(AYHJA @ Oct 28 2006, 03:22 AM) Getting pulled over for goinb 69 in a 65..?
My brother and me were pulled over for that once. I think it was a 50, and we were doing 55. We were driving down Oxford, and everyone was doing 55; we were just moving with the flow of traffic, but we got pulled over because we were the last car.

Speed to get to the front...you're less likely to get caught that way....ironic isn't it?
I fail to see the issue....you had expired tags....got pulled over and got a ticket for them?
Sounds like the law to me...

on the topic of cops and their decisions...
http://www.wral.com/politics/10173251/detail.html
A woman was ticketed for parking where she WORKS, all because of some poll and she wasnt supposed to park within a certain radius of polling areas.

btw my mom got pulled over for an expired tag. i was in middle school or so but the guy gave us a hard time like we just killed someone or something. i understood why he did it but the way he executed it was very poor and just overall stupid.
