Of course there not taking into account the potential shootings they stopped becouse some one reported the kid. I think theres been a few of those. Im not sure why all the neg towards brains on this topic becouse to me if your an american and not wondering what the hell we have to do to get these kids to stop killing than you must be numb inside. World wide i think only germany was on that list more than once except for us , We have 30. Thats not a put down to ask whats up.
thanks.
QUOTENow wether brains has anything to say on the matter is another question.
apparently not worth it discussing it here - much like i told uber on pm a few days ago.

Make no mistake, this is not anything negative towards Brains...I revere both him and his opinion...But to me to ask the question as was asked, and then to finger point towards the U.S....It makes no sense...This world is full of violence of all kinds...No country is void of ugly...The only thing about this is, our ugly side is plastered all over the fucked up media, and people that don't even live here are allowed to form an opinion based merely on what they they're reading or seeing on TV...
You'll not only never hear a balance of stories both good and bad about the U.S., and you're bound to not hear anything about another country...So, in essence, some man is Africa is beheaded for giving the HIV virus to over 40 women, and nobody says shit...That's horrible...Does that shit make CNN..? NOPE...
I simply asked that if we're gonna talk, lets talk...Bashing isn't necessary nor appropriate...
If Brains or anyone else wants to Discuss that's what's up...I'd LOVE to do that...But if you're not giving a fair and balanced POV, who wants to read it..? But there is no link that will prove school shootings and or gun violence is perpetuated by Americans, and what we do, please...
YES US Gun policy blows...But I'm an American who owns a gun...And there are a zillion people just like who own guns and have never shot or been shot by one...
So again...Why was the question:
"how come this kind of shit happens in the US?"
When it could have just as easily been:
how come this kind of shit happens in Dunblane, Scotland?
how come this kind of shit happens Sanaa, Yemen?
how come this kind of shit happens Taber, Alberta, Canada?
how come this kind of shit happens Branneburg, Germany?
So, I'm asking for the sake of discussion, if this question is in fact with merit and asked as posed, why was the US singled out when this thing happens all over..?

QUOTE(œbermensch @ Apr 24 2007, 03:35 AM) Historically speaking, King Leopold II...I'm sure know who that is...And where are your posts and threads about all the fucked up racial beatings and murders going on in Belgium right now..? You constantly are giving up paragraphs of American grief...And then you say we're attacking...But I realized these issues to be GLOBAL...
aj. there is no _all_ the fucked up racial beatings. we have them yes, but not as much, most are "innocent" and if they are not they make prime time news.
for example: last year a guy (Joe Van Holsbeeck) was stabbed down by some youngsters because of his iPod. He died - ONE died. It was prime time news for weeks. If that stuff would be happening as much as you would like to believe, it wouldn't be.
he even was remembered a year on - primetime news again. "Today, it's been exactly one year since Joe Van Holsbeeck" was stabbed.
How many times a year would that kind of stabbing happen in your country? Is it prime time news when it happens?
Look. I am only trying to get one point accross: seeing your country from the outside, I think you have MASSIVE problems. I am not trying to bash your country - just for the fuck of it. I got better things to do.

make that one.

My friend, I agree with both ends of that statement...
America is like a superstar in Hollywood...It can be that glamorous, well loved actor...And then, in that same breath, someone is going to think they're an asshole cause the walked up to him while he was trying to have dinner and he gave a shitty remark...
To that person, that actor may be an asshole...But that's one way to look at it...That guy could have signed 2000 autographs before that...But you loose it once, and everybody is giving you shit for life...
Yes, we have problems...But my point is everyone has their own unique issues in their country...You'll never read or hear on CNN how me and several of our neighbors leave our front doors wide open to feel a good spring breeze, or how good the education system is here...I mean, we are considered a 'superpower' and I bet nobody really even knows why...All they can see is negativity, and that's what I don't like...
I love my country just as everyone should love where they live...And I can only talk about what's relative, I live in a good community, shooting deaths are not the norm...Stabbings are not the norm...
Problems are relative to your location I believe...

Some things we need to put into perspective:Belgium is the size of the state of Maryland (smaller than Virginia)The US population is over 28 times larger than BelgiumMost of Africa and the middle east don't report these things unless they can use it politically. The US has more universities than most (if not all) other countries. (I didn't look it up, but we have a lot)In many of these other countries, a kid with a gun killing other kids is not the problem, rocket launchers and mid range missiles are what they worry about. Often from their own military. The US has a "free and uncensored" media that will tell the rest of the world all the bad things happening here and none of the good things.US media is rivaled only by the BBC in the rest of the world.Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong [except the the 'free and uncensored' part, not a conversation for this thread] but back it up with data.

lol yeah dude...I was just gonna make that point. How can you seriously compare Belgium and America without keeping it relative?
And I agree with everything that Ayhja nd HL said....News reports on America are almost always negative... so it puts our country as a whole out of proper perspective.. and as far as I know....you're basing your opinion on America on what you read and hear.....a la....the bad.
and talkin about school shooting in America? shit what about Africa and other third world countries where some kids don't even go to school...they're instead trained with a gun and taught to kill....
that shit is daily life for them...lil kids killin' people... and you're gonna say that America is the only one with problems?
Killin' and problems happen all over....and in some places...a helluva lot more often than in the U.S.....and some places...much, much less.... but don't just single out America because you got some issue with them if you can't fully support how it only happens in the U.S.

hey... i am not comparing belgium to the us. el chefe here raised belgium.
we are also not comparing ALL the problems in the world; we are comparing school shootings here - hence the topic title.

human nature I guess, huh? we are just more arroused by negative news. aren't we?
btw hl65: most of it is correct - except for the last part. there are a LOT of quality news channels over here in western europe. there is not only the bbc! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

far from saying that. as mentioned: most of the other issues are off topic, agreed?
and 36 in the US vs. 10 worldwide IS significant. or should you laugh it away.
QUOTEbut don't just single out America because you got some issue with them if you can't fully support how it only happens in the U.S.
i NEED to single out the states. school shootings happen far more there than anywhere else in the world. the question here is about how to support that observation. if I would know, I would not ask, would I? /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Well B, that's the thing...
When you say 'school shootings' what are you referring to..? Columbine/VT, or some pissed of student giving his teacher a ride on a .38 special..? IMO, they're different, one is simply violence that happened at school, similar to a workplace incident...And the other is a vicious plan carried out by a fucking psychopath nobody seems to want to call that until its too late...
And by comparing Belgium to the U.S., I was simply saying that there is bias in reporting news...We don't hear about the crazy fucks in Belgium with the dungeon in his basement, or the racist sumbitches...But every single incident here in the states, some dusty ass reporter being sassy on the air, its front page news...
Shit that happens here happens EVERYWHERE, and probably w/more frequency...So, with the wealth of information available to us, and the desire for personal scholarship, we can take our discussions to a new level...There are some inherent issues that are definitely uniquely American, but school shootings, violence....That's something we have in common w/lots of places...
Even in a slight comparison, what happened at VT was nothing close to what that fella in Australia did...And I'm ashamed to say that before now, I had never even heard of that...And I doubt anyone else did...
