i'm still thinkin' it'll be the combo of Lex (Spacey is signed for 3 flicks) & Doomsday as Singer implied about a year ago. he promised to "go all Wrath Of Khan" & have Superman fightin' mad. the word was they were gonna kill the kid in the first 30 min. way i see it, it's the only way to piss him off enough. i find Singer's take on the franchise very similar to Dick Donner's: 1st movie, do the romance thing & introduce the character. in this case re-introduce him & showcase some of his power, yet not all of it. next time you guys watch Superman The Movie, notice Reeve doesn't throw a single punch. 2nd movie: have Kal go buckwild & scrap all down & dirty (which he does most esp in the Donner cut of II).

btw i had this amusing thought the other day: Superman in Returns is the ultimate deadbeat dad. knocks the chick up. disappears for several years. comes back. finds out he's got seed. yet makes no attempt to claim him. asked by the mother "will we see you around?!?" as he's about to fly off. he replies " i'm always around.." & takes off again w/out offering any child support or anything of substance.

As for a sequel to Supes, go for it!

DARKSEID was actually who I think they were putting in the sequel. Lex went looking for Brainiac and found Darkseid. in *wiki* Justice League Unlimited.

With Superman, you really only have three options:

1. depower him (with kryptonite).
Problem: I didn't pay to see Weakened Man.

2. bring in titan of an opponent.
Problem: Everyone knows that fight could hardly take place on the Earth.

3. make us not care if he will win a fight, and care WHY he is fighting.
No Problem: Most of us want to see Superman wrecking dudes.

4. make his might unpredictable.
No Problem: This will be the way the movies have never really hit him.

There is no suspense in a Superman movie, unless you are well trained to suspend disbelief. Don't go for it. I say let him suffer a loss, or be fighting to prevent a loss with all his might. Superman has to live like we would if we lived in a world made of pasta dough. I say let him let loose and deal with the horror of that.

Even Supes hit with some red krytonite and attacking Metropolis and wrecking it before getting away. It could be by a terrorist organization being manipulated by Ras A-Ghul (not Liam Neison, superninja). The Govt. has to get ahold of the one man who almost beat Kal-El to even stand a chance... and this starts Lex's rise to political power. The two supervillans who ae so full of themselves would be interesting to see in dichotomy as well.

Let some other Heroes from the DC universe come to try and help bring Superman in. Give some backstory, but just *enough*, and others leave it like "Sgt. Pepper's Cover" don't explain everything going on. Have superman wreck something major, and go on the lam. Put a bounty on his head, get some international flavor for some people looking for that bounty. Let him deal with his self about what he did.

Meanwhile Superman has to figure out why he is going ape5hit and try to stay hidden.

Most people who step into a Superman theater are aware the battle has to be epic... Stop making it just Lex using his humanity against him. It got old in the last one when Kumar was whoopin on Kal-El. Ras Al Gul in print was far better against Superman, than Batman. I would say make Talia, and just let he be communicating with her disincarnate father, but with Liam, that would be a bit too reminescent of Star Wars. Instead, let Talia be running Lex Corp while Lex is in prison.

IN FACT, if RaG was the supervillan, and got these notes from Bruce Wayne... this would be a great way to finally start creating a cohesive universe of sorts for the DC movies. Or you could always use Brainiac...

Smallville has a great take on Brainiac, but he is not the same. Also, moreover... I don't know a single movie could bring everyone up to speed. Brainiac is a LONGLIVED complex character. Lots of opinions about him, and his 12th level education. Might not fit in one flick.

Darkseid would be cool. but i imagine they'd have to create Apokolips as well. & apparently the budget for this outing has been cut. so no doubling it as most sequels to successful films get.

I agree w/you on all points raum, especially #4...That's why I dig reading the Superman All Star series, its one of the best take on Superman that I've ever read...Of course I'm an admitted fan boy, but still...In All Star, the fortress of solitude is a place where Supeman behaves like he would on Krypton, as a vastly intelligent man in one of the oldest civilizations in the univese...He's a scientist...The he keeps the Fortress locked with a simple key that he keeps in his suit...The kicker..? It is made of super dense star material and weighs some 500 mega tons or something...And he's flying around with it like a latch key kid...

They need to think some 'Superman Unleashed' type shit for this to work...Moving fast, hitting hard, totally obliterating shit in the wake of doing his job...The best episodes of Smallville are the ones where he's rocking black leather, being a badass, and COMPLETELY off his boy scout...

I'm worried w/what they'll do with the sequel, but if killing the kid, paternity withstanding haha, gives him a huge chip on his shoulder..? Bring out the kiddie casket...
