I loved this movie ... and it almost flew under my radar. I never took Liam for an action star, but with Phantom Menace, Batman Begins, and now Taken, he's proven to me he can bring the physicality. Great action here. And as always, I have a soft spot for revenge-themed movies. :D

What is the ultimate revenge flick for ya,Ne0?

Wow, that is so difficult to answer, Jig. If there was ever a faithful adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo, I'd choose that with no doubt in my mind, as I've never come across a revenge tale so methodical. And while I enjoyed the Disney flick, it was nothing compared to the book. And I've never seen the French version starring Gerard Depardieu - which I hear is very good.
As it stands right now, the two movies that come immediately to mind are The Crow and The Godfather. The former for the plot revolving around revenge alone and the latter for revenge as a subplot.
How about you, Jig?

The Crow & Godfather are definitely up there. As are Oldboy, I Spit On Your Grave & Kill Bill.

I Spit on Your Grave...Man, I haven't thought about that movie in a long, long ass time...I remember watching that shit when I was a kid in Chicago, definitely early 80's...Totally blew my mind...But how could you not like Kill Bill man, which I don't watch unless I watch them back to back...
I'm sure there are some others, but those are two great ones...I saw The Crow and of course The Godfather, but The Crow always makes me sad to watch...I also liked "V for Vendetta" though its not as much of a straight up revenge story as the others...

just saw taken last night and absolutely enjoyed it .... except...
... I am tired of movies where the man with the machine gun at one end of a hall or across a small room can't seem to hit the hero, who of course is a "one shot and your dead" kinda guy. If there is distance between them, ok... but please, down the hall?...across a bedroom?.... are security people really that poorly trained?
...but over all, it was worth the price of the ticket IMHO

1. In this movie the main character, played by Liam Neeson, is an experienced CIA op from the CIA's
Special Activities Division. He has experience in combat operations obviously - properly shooting a gun, checking out the environment before going into a possible kill zone, skilled hand to hand combat.
2. Most thugs for hire generally aren't that smart and cannot shoot a gun...even in real life. That's why they always end up as bodies found on the evening news.
Combine those two and there's a very good perception that the movie was realistic.
Regarding the machine gun, for it to be accurate you must be using it correctly. Firing from the hip like Rambo won't allow you to hit anything, especially a moving target.
