Barry was awesome. It was between him and Walter Payton for me. It was a very tough choice. I have Sander's rookie card. I'm keeping that forever...

It seems to me y'all are confusing "greatest of all time" with "potentially greatest of all time."

That's why I voted for Emmit. He's earned the title; it's his.

Jim Brown is very solid argument, but in my mind, he played in a different era. If Brown qualifies, so does Bronko Nagurski.

To me, the potentially greatest running backs in NFL history were Gale Sayers and Eric Dickerson.

I can't stand Emmit...the man played for like 29 years...behind the best line for 27. A 15 year old could put up close to the same numbers under the same circumstances.

Barry undoubtively would have CRUSHED Payton, but is quoted in saying he retired early because he had too much respect for Sweetness and wanted the record to be his. That might also be a key factor in me getting a sour taste in my mouth everytime I hear #22's name.

The question is the greatest and I'd have to go with either Barry or Walter. I voted for Walter, but rethinking about it, I think that Barry was is the best back ever

I definitly voted Barry.. First off, he is from my home team.. Second, Walter Payton and Jim brown werent in my day as I am young.. I liked Emmitt but Sanders would have beat him by far.. And Sanders is a great player.. I loved to watch him look to the left and jump to the right and shti.. He was the shit... But he shouldn't have retired.. Barry had like no line blocking for him and he still ran for crazy yardage...
but emmit in that position and he would have gotten hurt a long time ago...what did emmit do when he played for the cards?......sucked.

emmit smith is overrated...you tend to break records when you play for that long...
if barry played that long...that record would NEVER be broken.

Lets us also not forget that these days, teams play 16 game schedules...Jim Brown played in a time before the invent of the West Coast Offense...That means 8 in the box, like it or love it...

He was big (Height: 6'2" Weight: 232), fast, and and a fuckin' PUNISHING RUNNER...Think Adrian Peterson for the Oklahomer Sooners with 20 more pounds and an attitude for those not old enough to remember...

He was in the league for 9 seasons, all pro in 8, (he won rookie of the year his first year), and HE DIDN'T MISS A GAME IN 9 YEARS...Oh...And he lead the league in rushing every year he played except 1, despite being the lone offensive threat...He also returned kicks, caught the football, and THREW the football...He also played fullback...You guys like stats..?
