My father was (and still is) a racist, I've been around racists most of my life. I can't exactly say when or where my epiphany came, but thank God it did. It hurts me to hear "that word" now, even coming from some of my black friends. It is a word filled with hate and ignorance and can NEVER be anything else; there's too much history behind it. I know it's hard to be young in today's world - I've got two teenagers trying to make a go of it in South Carolina. But when I see kids trying to be as "ghetto" as they can be with absolutely NO idea of what it really means, it tears me up.
