Not sure where you heard this at. AMD isn't releasing their next gen cards until 2012. Same goes for nVIDIA, which is slated for Q1 2012. These are not timed at all with any game releases.
I played the BF3 Alpha and I can say that it was actually quite fast paced.

The rumor I heard on one of the podcast I listened to said there was new line of cards coming out at the time when the game is released.
If you check out videos of bad company two you see a slower game as compared to something Resistance 3 or COD.
There is a lot of running to get to the action in rush mode in BFBC2. Where as a game like Resistance 3 you will spawn and die but the the maps are never that big where you feel like you can hide on the map. I'm refering to speed of the maps and their relative size of traversing.

I've been playing Bad Company 2 for the past 2 years. I know how that game plays too. Rush mode isn't "faster". It's just where one side plays defense and the other side plays offense.
The maps will be big in Battlefield 3 because some of them include jets. You can't put jets into a small perimeter of a map.
Here shows the latest spec requirements for Battlefield 3, or at least the Beta.

BTW, 84 don't get me wrong. Not trying to be an ass about it. I'm actually looking forward to the Radeon HD 7900 series as it's supposed to use XDR2 memory. Really looking forward to the game too. Beta should be available soon for me.

Got the Beta today. Just played some of it. 1920x1080 with Ultra settings on my rig (Core 2 Quad @ 3.4GHz, Radeon HD 5850, 6GB DDR2-850) and I average well above 40FPS. I hit 50FPS in many areas. This game doesn't need some high end brand new graphics cards at all. I'm using the Catalyst 11.8 drivers as well.

I've been using nothing but ATi since 2002 when the Radeon 9700 Pro came out. I've never been disappointed by any of their cards throughout all my upgrades. They are always making the first advancements in technology compared to nVIDIA. They helped develop GDDR3, GDDR4 and GDDR5. They were the first gaming graphics card to use a 256-bit memory bus.
That doesn't make me a blind fanatic but I haven't seen anything to impress me from nVIDIA, especially their pricing. When their CEO went balls out over being an Apple fanatic they lost any potential future purchases from me.
