Oh, well I didn't take it personally, but I wasn't about to jump in and have no pity party...I mistakenly thought that is what this was about...So, excuse me if I came across a little hasty...I know you're a smart, well educated dude, I wasn't about to have you talking about your own limited chances...Thought you had flipped the script on me... /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

It's just that I don't really care for excuses, is all...Part of that is where I live...I see poor black folk all the time and all they do is talk about "white folks" this and that...Burns me the fuck up...Excuses fucking suck, I hate to make them myself...I like being as proud of my fuckups as I am my triumphs...

The bottom line is this LG, in my eyes...Our government has had a less than spectacular record with minorities...And they are doing what they can to try and fix it...It is not right that you or anyone else has to deal with it...But it is certainly not right to not acknowledge it...

I choose not to be a part of it, if that makes sense...I suggest you, and anyone else looking to make something of themselves do the same...We as individuals cannot let some bullshit law, or some fake ass good ole boy stop you from going to Northwestern or Yale or wherever you're trying to go...Only you can stop that...

yo LG got timing, just look at this:

[link]http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/l ... 15,00.html
[/link]

summary:

Denver firefighters upset that enough minorities can't pass current tests to work for the fire department, so they rewrite the requirements. Becuase everyone knows nothing is worse than an all-white (and mexican) fire department. Just ask the *almost extinct* (from the tone of the article) black firefighters who are crying to have the standards lowered. THE ONES WHO DID MAKE THE CUT.

but that is in one case,..

LG,

everything got a few sides to it. this is just a validation that is "some ways" what you say is true.

but you have to develop flexibility, or your perspective only fits in "some ways"

My problem is controling my flexibility actually.......I can see both sides of the issue, and can argue from either POV...in most cases.

Maybe it's my love for debate and confrontation.....but something always leads me to picking the less popular route..the harder to defend...which is why everyones always yelling at me like I don't see their side of the story...when...its all too obvious to me which side is which.......I have a problem being sincere and actually picking a side in many many issues.

Thats what a lot of people don't understand about me......

lemme use a metaphor.

your focus should be able to be like water...

soft flowing and clear... and capable of (when tempered to repsond to the situation) immediate firmness and minute targeting, like a needle of ice.

Are we reading the same article..?

QUOTEn the past six years, Denver has hired 272 firefighters. Fifty were Hispanic, two were American Indians, two were Asian, 10 were women and 203 were white males. Five black firefighters were hired in 1999 and 2000, but none since.

QUOTE\"A lot of what's going on is that the word is out that if you're black don't bother applying to get on Denver's fire department because you won't get hired,\" said Kevin Duncan, president of Colorado Black Professional Firefighters. Duncan recently was promoted to captain at Station 10.

\"We need to change that perception if we expect to turn this problem around.\"

And is this a BAD thing..??

QUOTEdemanding that testing stop and steps be taken to ensure that the department's minority ranks reflect the makeup of the metro area.

Moving right along:

QUOTE\"The bottom line is that we are looking at a number of things we think we can change so we can attract qualified minority applicants,\" LaCabe said.

QUOTEI'm not sitting here advocating that we lower the standards. I'm simply trying to create a testing and hiring process that's fair to everybody.\"

It is kind of hard to feel the POV, when I read stuff like, Forced Integration...

QUOTEThe majority of Denver's minority firefighters were hired in the late 1970s and 1980s after the city was forced by the courts to integrate its safety departments.

I could go on and on, but...The fact remains that somewhere, not that long ago, the people before us fucked up the race relations in this country really bad...And if you're not going to sit and complain about what happened back then, cause apparently in 1980 we wouldn't be having this discussion, you sure don't need to be sitting complaining now...

LG, that's just playing advocate, and if you begin your statements

"Lemme say this to play advocate" [and drop yo line].

or

"For the sake of argument" [and handle yo business].

puts it in a different perspective than the level of "THIS IS MY MIND"

which everyone hates..

see, most people don't REALLY know how to feel about things... they just think how they should feel, and parrot it out. When they hear a person conflict with that, they will often change their own consideration... unless the person is headstrong... then they will rise to the challenge, and the next thing you know, you have two people "FULL OF CONVICTION" that won't even remember the point of the original argument.

Bujt if you gonna play advocate,.. (like i LOVE to) you gotta get some more data. or you just shootin opinionated blanks and you will never be taken seriously.

(like Ty and you)

Well, as this is LG's arguement and not mine, the burden of proof is on him.../:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />

He says life sucks because of affirmative action, I say prove it, and he says, "c'mon, you know it exists..."

To me, being a person who is in fact, a symbol of the thing he dejects, he should be able to help me see his P.O.V...Like I said, those are strong accusations...It did not come out as a plea for govermental adjustment, it came out as a "Why don't Blacks and Mexicans go the fuck somewhere else," deal...

My whole point is that shit is fucked up, but no need to cry about it...It can, and will get worse if you do...Go the fuck on, and shake the idea that somebody is holding you back...If there is an objection to that, then by all means speak your piece...

But, as a wise man says, LG is seeing the world through a filter that has since been removed from my eyes...I don't feel the need to see that side of his POV, I just want him to see it...If I didn't know him, I would have read that and thought he was a bigot...

....you went from seeming to understand the point of my post.....to going the complete oppisite...and I didn't say anything further..

explain that flip-flop.
