what's a firewall?

heh seriously, i use NAT as the perimeter combined with using a virtual pc that is hosted on my main machine bith of which are running Sygate Personal Firewall. I like using a virtual pc for surfing warez and other nefarious sites because if I happen to get infected with a little nasty, getting rid of it is as simple as deleting the virtual installation and restoring the backup made just prior to starting that session. I use symantec anti-virus only because I had access to an unrestricted free license as part of being a student a while ago. It seems to do a pretty good job, although the only time I ever get an infection is when I have purposely tried to so that I can investigate something.

Actually I have been using AVG on my home system..

Though our companies Dell units come with McAfee, some prefer Sygate.

I used to have Conseal a few years ago.

Geeze emanon, you suck. Don't make fun of the question I was actually going to ask.
But then I looked it up on urban dictionary:

"A geek's condom; Helps prevent viruses.
Remember to practice safe hex and use a firewall!"

That website is a serious bible for a white girl moving from aznville to ghettoville. Oops, I'm almost trolling.
So why should I be worried about getting this stuff (firewalls and whatnot)?

Too damn funny...I'm running Windows default ATM, just until I can install the latest version of Outpost tho, LoL...Interesting that others are using Sygate, I think I may give it a try first...

Just Norton Internet Security 5, and the Windows firewall.

The BEST firewall is the power plug, pulled out of the socket....................

I've always hated Norton products (with the only exception of ghost which is wonderful). Personally ZA or Outpost are my choices. If combined with a good hw firewall then even better.

But you gotta remember the fact that Symantec bought the company that devloped the software that is now rebranded as Ghost 9..
