So if we're talking about best this season, I'd have to say Alexander wins that. Best active running back? That'd have to go to LT. Throughout their careers, LT has been alot better and has carried his team farther.

hmmm....you mean when he was injured most of the last couple years? Gates and Brees carried that team into and during the playoffs last year......

and no Larry Johnson doesnt have shit on SA........jsut because Holmes got the start at the beginning didnt mean that LJ is shit so when he produces we should hail him as a god.....he's like Lendale White at USC....he could start on any team in the league....but is just behind someone who is hailed as better......I personally would pick him over Holmes even before the year started....I think Holmes is overrated...

But....you can somewhat argue LJ maybe this season.....but you'll always lose the Barry is the best of all time arguement.... its between Sweetness and Jim Brown..

Unless I'm looking at the wrong thing LG, LT has only missed one game in his career...SA has missed a handful though....

he didnt miss the game against the colts....but he didnt play the whole game either....... he's injured often...

If he is injured often, but still playing damn near every game and putting up those kinds of numbers...Then you just gave the #1 reason why he is regarded as the best back in the NFL...

If LJ had started the whole year, he would have 2000+ easy. 25 TDs easy. That's just rushing.

Regarding Barry Sanders...look, I admit I am biased. I've never seen more than clips of Brown or Sweetness. But I just watched too many Packers-Lions games in gradeschool to say someone COULD be better. The guy had no O-line. You wouldn't believe how many times he would make 4-5 guys miss in one play, even if he still lost 3 yards. Personally, I don't measure greatness by numbers for a back. I judge greatness by the ability to make people look like fucking fools trying to tackle you. I been a Green Bay fan since day 1, but only during those Lions games was I sometimes scared to admit it. Everyone gets they own opinion, and it'll take some phenominal footage of the other backs to convince me otherwise.

Barry is great man, no doubt about it...But physically, statistically, nobody is fuckin' with JB...Like I said in the debate thread, there was 8 in the box every play man...Every body knew Jim was getting the ball...The difference between Jim Brown and Barry Sanders..? Nobody could tackle either one of them, but nobody WANTED to tackle Jim Brown...

I love Barry too man....but you addmitted the difference......either you make people miss....or you go through people...and thats the difference between a possible 3 yard loss and a 20 yard gain... In my personal opinion, although he was fun to watch....he's never playing on my team if I get a choice of Brown or Sweetness too...the guy played horizontinally...not vertically.....he went side to side avoiding people ..which is great to watch....but the other two went through people...Brown more often than Sweetness.

You know a stat I LOVE about Sweetness? (now..I read this in his book...but I'm not sure if its true) He never went out of bounce. When the choice is between stepping out of bounce a yard shy of the first down line or taking that defender on who has been gaining mommentum to stop you since the play started...he always took on the defender.. I can understand QB's stepping out of bounds...but if you're a runningback...take the fucking hit and get a couple more yards whenever possible.....unless of course clock is of the essiance. I'm hella biased...I live in Illionios and still watch tapes of the 85 bears....I own a couple books written by or about Walter....I own his jersey.....but I am willing to say statistically no one is touching JB.....but I'm still picking Walter Payton every time.

i guess...in their carrers they are comparable......but this year and last year...Alexander is KILLING the league man... why has there been no shift to name him the best....?

That stat about Sweetness: I heard that too...I think they said the number of times that he ran out of bounds in his career was a ridiculously low number, like 14...Defenders have told stories of how they could hear him telling offensive lineman to pass up blocks so he could mash on somebody...Sweetness is the only other back besides JB whom I will offer no attempt to make a rebuttal on the best of all times...

SA will have to add another aspect to his game before he can take the title...All backs considered to be best of the best have that added threat of reciever...

I don't recall Sweetness, Jim Brown, or Barry Sanders doing a lot of recieveing...aside from little screen passes that they turn into long gains with their running ability.......great ones dont need to catch balls to get touchdowns and yards my man.
