I personally think it was a stupid decision...he sat out because he wanted to seem like he wanted his teammates to get valuable playing time....but he's still thought of as really selfish....so if they're gonna call him selfish...he might as well be selfish and go for the gold....
I'm only saying it was a poor decision in hindsight because the desired effect failed to happen.

I agree with everything you said LG, however, the point I'm trying to make is that Kobe is in the situation he wants to be in......where he has no competition for "who's the best Laker". Truly great players prove their greatness when they are in a situation that requires them to share the limelight.
Magic had Worthy...
Bird had McHale...
Jordan wasn't a winner until he got Pippen.......
and Kobe wanted the most dominant player in the game traded so he could be the man.....
Great talent yes.......team player.......no. Because of that he can't be called the best in the game.

I'm not going to say Kobe is the best player, but I will say there is no single person in the league that I'll pick over Kobe...Any player that can consistently put up 30 pts 7 rbs and 6 assists 2 steals, nice with both hands from 15, and can shut down AND play spots 1-3..? You guys serious..? That aspect alone puts him above many players...Not to mention the fact that Kobe is huge, and in great shape...His game has no flaws, he has Mike's whole arsenal...
I am not so sure that Kobe was the problem in the whole Shaq/Phil/Kobe saga...The Lakers would not have been able to sign Shaq from what I can understand...And Phil said Kobe was uncoachable, but yet...He's back coaching him...I think more than people realize, Kobe was the scapegoat for many issues...Including that Colorado slut with 2 different cumstains in her panties from the same night, claiming Kobe raped her...
I have watched several games in which Kobe passed to open teammates and they blew shots...If there was a stat to track that, I bet Kobe would lead the league in it...The triangle is notoriously hard to implement, and could not be executed with precision with a center who is demanding the ball, who like LG said, is just fucking big...He has never lead the league in points or rebounds or blocked shots...I would like to question that dominance...Someone 7' 400 pounds should shoot 55% from the field...In fact, they should shoot better than that, shit, Mike shot that good in at least 4 seasons, and he's a 2 guard...
Man, Kobe is 26 or 27 years old...He is just peaking...Already got 3 championships...All the Lakers need is a 3pt threat, and drive and kick triangle ball will rule the league...

Yeah.....everyone who says "Kobe got Shaq kicked out" really doesn't know the whole story.... they couldnt afford to have both of them when Shaq's contract ran up....and he was declining statistically, probably because he was unmotivated and out of shape....and he's more than 5 years older than Kobe......it was a good idea to trade him....they kept the younger, more versitile player on their team hoping they could build around him.
It was not a mistake at all in my opinion..... granted Shaq got to go and play with Wade so now he looks like it was a mistake trading him.....but it wasn't....and hopefully they add some good talent around Kobe.....the rumors I heard about getting artest would make them much better...move Odom down to PF.....and they'd be a pretty good team....assuming Bynum grows into a good player...and Phil Jackson as the coach....they're gonna be good....I have them making the playoffs this year..

Shit, tonight should kill any doubt. Kobe scored 81 points. He exploded in the second half scoring 27 of the Lakers' 42 points in the 3rd quarter. He scored 8 points in about a minute making to 3s and a 2.

Hmm...
When I said a while ago, Kobe could give it to MJ, cats thought I was talkin' crazy...Kobe could consistently put up those numbers...Could have did it against Dallas, and did do it against the Raptors tonight...Dude is lights out fucking unconscious out there...
