Oh I know that....I mean as far as this disucussion goes...can we be good with it and move on with the real topic....

please I'm going to save our "not good" terms for when it's a little bit more relevant and serious than some grammar...

Nah...the only time I felt I caught you slippin.....I ended up agreeing with you anyway...and misunderstood you initially.....but man, if you didn't mean what you meant....it would have been over with (the Melo, Bron, Wade topic)

Haven't you noticed a change in my ways...enough so to realize I'm not really trying to get in a heated discussion over some grammar...come on now....

I honest to God didn't think it was heated at all, it was kinda funny to me...Just the rapport we have, talking shit to one another and so forth, it just really didn't cross my mind it was unclear, the entire trajectory of the comment about the sentence in the first place made me smirk, and from there it was a matter of friendly one uppance...

I realize a great many of our male members put on panties from time to time, but I can assure you I never will...

Allow me to dig up the heat?

If Ty had said, "looks like USC had an opponent that night besides Texas" (which is a fucked up sentence anyway but hear me out) I at least would read that as, uh, they had two opponents...

So 2 opponents besides Texas would make 3..No?

The best argument, IMHO, that could be made is that Texas wasn't as opponent or something, but it's hella week, especially cuz Texas was an opponent lol...

No man, it does not...LoL...And you're right:

QUOTE(Aemeth)it's hella week

that I'm having to explain English in a sports thread...Take into example the following sentence please...

"Billy, you don't have to worry about that, besides, who even cares..?"

The word 'besides' doesn't always mean 'in addition to' or didn't I make that clear by posting the definition..? I can understand that you guys didn't see the intended meaning for whatever reason, but telling me that he way I used it is wrong is ridiculous...

Did you not read my explanation?

USC lost to 3 opponents (if you subscribe to the "they were fucked" theory).
1) USC lost to Texas - just look at the score...and a couple of sweet Vince Young highlights...
2) USC lost to the refs.... again - this assumes that you truly believe that the refs fucked up in a one sided manner. My experience has been that a bad ref is a bad ref and while some bad calls are more visible - they make the bad calls both ways and they all impact the game. Live with it, it's a fact of life... move on.
3) USC lost to THEMSELVES. If you can't make the big play or keep the opponent from making big plays...you are your own worst enemy. USC couldn't get it done when it counted.

Count the opponents... I get three.... making USC a 3 time loser in the rose bowl. Can we move on now, I mean, my gawd - it's been nearly a year and another championship is just around the corner.... (sadly, Texas won't be there or in any other BCS bowl.... curse the fates....and the refs... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />)

Ok, I typed week instead of weak...whoop de fuck...that doesn't make you right lol...but maybe since you put it in bold it does /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Besides, obviously, doesn't have to mean in addition to, but how you used it it seems pretty clear...

Someone says "nice Jordans" to me I will smile and say "yea and I have 2 pairs besides these"...Do you think that implies I have 2 or 3? (Serious question)

Damn Homie, might I speak slower...These are my points...

1. Notice that I said that sentence in context Homez...And on top of that, tell me this...Had I said something to the effect of "Looks like USC had 2 opponents that night besides just Texas, would we still have this conversation..? No, of course not...Now, if you can convince me that the word 'just' actively modifies that sentence to an entirely different meaning, please let me stand corrected...

For instance these two responses to the question, "Who is in the other room..?

A. Marge.
B. Just Marge.

Now, because I was talking only about Texas, including the word 'just' in the sentence would have meant it was an adverb, which was the function of the word besides...

http://tinyurl.com/y3swfp

That's the definition right there man, check out #5...I can't figure out how you're trying to explain to me the way I used to word is wrong when I've got definitions and grammar rules to suggest otherwise...

2. You seem content to ignore the fact that the definition of the word and its usage can be used in a variety of ways...The word 'Besides' doesn't always have to mean 'in addition to', or do you just not want to talk about that..? That's not even the first and primary one...

Anything else...? :nerd:

Ok, whatever...I don't really understand but you are probably right on a technicality (sp?)...still seems like a inferior way to phrase it though lol...kinda confusing...
