"and if you think the money is only as good as where it came from, and not what you can do with it, then you will never be able to succeed"

Beautifully said...

---

Not according to one of the wisest men to ever live...(Solomon)

Look, this guy is providing a way for people to fuck up their lives and is justifying it by giving some of the money he has made away. I don't blame the dealer directly (even though drugs would be a LOT harder to get if your local drug dealer didn't exist), but this is not morally acceptable. Period. I am all for being open minded, but this is like saying the girl who only gave some random dude a bj at a party when everyone else was fucking isn't a slut. This venerable drug dealer may be the best of his breed, but anyone can win a championship in the NBDL. Being the best of the worst doesn't count for much.

Aemeth,

Please give me a few of these quotes by Solomon about ill-gotten gains.

still,..

Being that EVERY relative of every potential successor to the throne of David was whacked to make sure Solomon got his crown and he knew it, well it seems like his slave-made robes might be a bit more soiled than a few bills that smell like oregano, ya know?

But let's go Biblical, on this:

Look at Jacob, who scammed his brother of his birthright, and was named Israel... He took his licks, brought his ill-gotten wealth back to Esau and his family, and that is beginning of the Tribes.

Do you really think Solomon would consider unregulated sales of controlled substances as "ill-gotten?"

Hell, he would probably be embarrased to see consumer protection in an economic model, and would be furious there was no Monarchy that ruled and lived lavishly off the taxes of the people. Don't even try and figure what he would think of amortized credit or mortgages, which all figure much higher in his mind than a free merchant selling things that were legal and plentiful in his own kingdom.

Solomon employed the rebellious spirits to lay the foundation for his temple.

Opium, Hemp, Ergot, and all manner of drug was all good with the king Solomon who used to communicate with spirits through little boys jacked up on dangerous amounts of nutmeg (like nostrodamus). If Solomon considered this "dealers" gains "ill-gotten" it would most likely because he wasn't paying taxes to his King.

I would not take it, I would not participate in the cash benefits that resulted by the misery of others. I would never be able to live with myself after that.

Man, someway or another, you've already done that...This country was built on the backs and bloods of slaves, the persecution of natives, shit the list goes on and on...Somehow, I get the feeling that you haven't escaped that...

It's hard to escape it, you're right, but there is something about making an active decision not to participate. Unknowingly and sometimes unwillingly are we participants in it when it comes to the economy and our government and stuff like that. But for a scholarship, you are making an active decision to support what he's doing. And that's not cool
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

Soren Kierkegaard

How are you making an active decision to support what he's doing.

If I take a scholarship, I have met certain criteria to be eligible for it.

My point is simple: my not taking a scholarship from him is not going to influence the way he does buisness, HOWEVER that may be. he likely will not be phased one way or another.

As far as his money, I guarantee you a man who is making a college fund for legit, he is WAY more about money than what drugs can bring in. If he started there, and has roots there, then damn,...

but hw you gonna say you wouldn't take his money for college, and you would pay for a Tupac album that was funded the same way?

To take that which was brought by evil, and to make good of it... that is the transformation in your life that matters. Good easily comes from good. To take hate and make it love; to take greed and make it generosity; to take ignorance and bring forth from it knowledge; to cultivate opportunity where there was only desperation... that is the real ordeal of a pure heart ad the secret of Alchemy.

Gold from lead...

tt, I take it you won't be downloading any more albums from the site..? /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />

Surely you don't want to support my massive bootlegging, and brutal onlsaught of the artists well being, for that is surely my intention...Not to simply upload an album for a friend, but to make myself famous and be a recording artist Robin Hood...

I'm sure you can read into that...Heh...

raum....I have known a "drug dealer" or two, and a few pimps and more than my share of prostitutes. These are real people, not just people who walk around with evil smiles on their inner child because society crumbles wherever they go.

me....Whats your point.... Of course dealers are people with good and bad traits that have freinds and families. There not 2 dimensional characters from an episode of starsky and hutch.

raum..... my not taking a scholarship from him is not going to influence the way he does business

me........Nobody is saying we can change the dealers actions. Lets look at the situation again as it was presented. A reputed drug dealer is giving a legit scholarship to a kid in the community. Some kid won it meaning there was a contest. The parents had rejected the money and it was being talked about on the radio. The entire community could be aware of this situation. The way i see it .. beyond the question of whether this will impact your character..... if you take the money your publicly leaving the impression that drug dealing isnt really that bad because look at the good this person is doing. It could effect the life decisions of kids that have no interest in college and are lead to believe drug dealing could be a good idea. It justifies and glorifies drug dealing. These impressionable kids and clueless adults not only become a new way of bringing drugs to the community they also become much more likely to become users. The potential harm that the public acceptance of this money could bring is worth considering.

raum.....All I know is not every drug dealer sets up a legit college fund to help kids get the education they need to not take the route in life he did.

me..... If this guy is really concerned with impressionable kids not doing what he does he wouldnt want people to know he was a drug dealer. If he really cared he would donate the money anonymously to a group that gave scholarships to kids in the area or he would give the money to a trusted 3rd party to give away as aid. Or if he really cares about people not taking the route he did than theres another thing that might help.. STOP DEALING DRUGS !

raum.....Let's rewrite the Charles Dicken's story "A Christmas Carol" to where little Timmy's mom and daddy refuse to let Scrooge buy them a holiday feast, and pay for little Timmy's operation:

me....Bad analogy.... The problem with Scrooge wasnt his occupation .The great wrong Scrooge was guilty of was that he was a rich but stingy miser who didnt care about peaple. The only thing he cared about was money. His dramatic change was made evident by his complete reversal in how he treated people .He was no longer the same man because the thing he was guilty of ..a lack of compassion or love for your fellow man and being a miser...had been obviously replaced with a great desire to help and a love of others. Why would any one refuse such a mans gifts. This is not the same thing as a drug dealer who continues to help do harm to the community .If you look back at the beginning of the thread you can see it was said that if the dealer had given up dealing and changed , as did scrooge , than a scholarship would be o.k.
Thanks for the lovely rewrite but whats next. Have you figured out some grotesque ending for whinne the pooh and tigger too.

raum.....Being that EVERY relative of every potential successor to the throne of David was whacked to make sure Solomon got his crown and he knew it,

me........ Was it Solomon who whacked people to get his thrown or was it King Solomon who after being given the thrown by King David, whacked people in defense of his thrown.

..."ill-gotten gain is worthless and will only lead to trouble."

me........There is nothing wrong with the teaching. Being wise and living wisely are two different things. God gave Solomon great wisdom but Solomon chose to ignore some of gods teachings when it came to his own behavior. He and his nation paid a price for that.
