Have heard mixed reviews about The Queen but I think I still want to check it out.

Blood Diamonds i've seen a couple times now. Absolutely loved that movie. DiCaprio was awesome as hell and the whole movie was just totally gripping from beginning to end.

WORLD TRADE CENTER

I'm a big fan of Nick Cage....and a sometimes fan of Oliver Stone, so that's really why I watched this film.

Since I live in Australia the whole thing about the WTC attacks is a little far removed from my life. I mean, we watched it on 09/11/01 on our tv's with sheer disbelief, but even so, it was then and is now, still a bit too surreal........all the genuine images of that day, and the following days, are so monumental that it almost seems too big to fathom.

It's more or less the story of John McLoughlin, a policeman who entered the WTC moments after the attack, and is one of the 22?..(I think)...survivours who were pulled alive from the rubble.

The production techniques were great, the acting was faultless, the story...I presume, was accurate, but I wasn't really that riveted. :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin: /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I much prefered..................

Oliver Stone doesnt equal factual, not even close. Artistic license maybe.

I saw this on pay TV the other night and although it was released in 1976 it is the first time I've ever seen it and I thought it was well worthy of mention.

Produced by Alberto Grimaldi and directed by Bernado Bertolucci, with a power line up that includes Robert de Niro, Gerard Depardieu, Donald Sutherland and Burt Lancaster the film is set in Bertolucci's ancestral region of Emilia, Italy, and follows the illicit friendship between Alfredo Berlinghieri (de Niro) a rich landowners son, and Olmo Dalco (Depardieu) a peasant son, during the early 20th century when Italy was in a state of constant political turmoil. Their friendship continues after the first World War until the onset of fascism forces a separation between them. Alfredo chooses the side of Fascism, while Olmo fights for the communists.
Attila (Donald Sutherland) embodies completely the essence of fascism, and the part of this monster is portrayed in a way that only Donald Sutherland can...(Characters like Hannibal Lecter, or for that matter even Sutherland's character in 'Backdraft', look like Sunday school teachers in comparison!!)

Even if the illustration of the dynamics of fascism and communism during this era are not what interests you, then simply a look at the differences between peasant life and the wealthy in Italy during this time is fascinating in itself. The explicit realness throughout the movie made my stomach churn at times....like I swear it wasn't fake fresh horse manure that was being thrown at Attila by the peasants...you actually see them massaging the horses rectums to make them shit...it couldn't have been fake!!

Not what you would call an entirely uplifting story, but superb acting and direction all the way.
