OK, now that's out of the way...

Dirk is having a great all around season, w/numbers on the offensive side similar to Kevin Garnett's when he won...But what made it hard to deny Garnett, was his very obvious defensive presence...If I'm not mistaken, dude was averaging 2 blocks a game, a steal or two...That, along w/his 20-10-5, was amazing...

IMO, Dirk suffers from the same thing that plagues Nash, being a defensive threat as well...I think that's why they were on the same team and couldn't get it done...Dirk is 7' tall: he should be blocking more than .7 shots a game on GP...

Kobe gets it done defensively, and there's no denying his offensive prowess...

But if I have to the best player on the top tier teams in the league, I'd give it to Dirk I think...

I'm the one who brought up Dirk...and the one who started this thread....

the fact of the matter is....the question isn't "who should win mvp"...it's who is the best player...in that regard its no contest kobe..

who's MVP?....I have no doubt in my mind that Kobe will NOT win it....

I just brought up the counter point to your statement about it having to do with the team they're playing on and how that team is doing....so if you choose not to go exclusively by stats...and you put it on the best player on the best team...dirk gets the nod.

Steve Nash is a great player...and makes the suns work....but like ayhja said earlier...take him off the suns and put another pg there....and there may be a slight drop off....but the suns would still be a damn good team.

take kobe off the lakers and they aren't even spelling playoffs until the lottery balls fall in their favor...

while your argument might be that the Lakers aren't that good with Kobe...so his value shouldn't be considered that high.... that's not a fair point because he can't help who his teammates are. It's not like Nash had no one on the suns...and he turned them all into all stars...those players were going to be all stars....their game is just elevated by nash....but like ayhja said....odom is having his best years....Kwame Brown is actually proving...every once and a while...that he can play some ball... so Kobe isn't doing too bad for himself either...he just isn't blessed to have 2 all stars on his squad with him... we all saw the damage he did when he actually had a team....something nash has yet to do...and i still don't think they'll get past the mavs this year either...but we shall see.

I created this thread as a means to argue against Nash....because I don't like the misconception that he's the best player in the NBA....it's arguable that he's most valuable...but best...no way... so yes...i did come into the thread with a preconceived hatred for any Nash arguements....but that doesn't mean I'm not open to talk about anyone.....shit I'm giving Nash nods in the MVP department....just not overall best..

Shouldn't the MVP naturally be the best player..? Or so I think...I hate that they don't vote that way...I thought they were getting away from that when KG won it, the Timberwolves ain't won shit, but KG was arguably the only player they had, putting up monster numbers, and carrying that team...
