When it was announced that Heath Ledger had been cast as The Joker for the upcoming Batman movie, it caught a lot of people off guard. Most people (like me) didn’t love or hate the selection. Most had a “guarded optimism”. esprcially after it was revealed that Sean Penn was the first choice. After all, Ledger has shown that from time to time he is capable of knocking it out of the park , but sometimes he can also just suck. He’s hit and miss… but when he hits… there’s no denying it can be something special.
Recently MTV sat down with Michael Caine. When the topic of the next Batman movie came up, one of the great actors of our time had this to say of Ledger’s performance as The Joker:
Caine said, “I’ll tell you who it’s about. It’s about Heath Ledger as The Joker. He will be the talking point of the next Batman.” So will he be scarier than say Scarecrow or Two-Face? Yes indeed, Caine said, calling Ledger’s turn, “one of the scariest performances I’ve ever seen.”
Now granted, Caine is an actor talking about an upcoming movie of his, so you know he’s supposed to say great glowing things… so take it with a grain of salt… but still… when an actor the calibre of Michael Caine says something like that… it can’t be anything but good news.
So what do you think? Could Ledger’s Joker performance make us forget about Jack?!?
modified article. thanks to TMB.

Morgan Freeman talking about both Wanted and The Dark Knight:
I was reading the recent "USA Today Weekend" insert that accompanies my local Sunday paper. The "Who's News" section included a short article on Morgan Freeman talking about upcoming projects. Here's what he had to say on two of those projects.
"WANTED with Angelina Jolie. 'I head up a fraternity of assassins. All I do is talk'.
THE DARK KNIGHT, a sequel to BATMAN BEGINS, shooting now. 'This time, my character(Lucius Fox) figures more in the plot'."

Batman Movies News and Updates has translated an interview with The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and producer Charles Roven from Kino.de which included these bits (minor spoilers):
- Batman will go to Hong Kong for some kind of "gangster hunting", but Roven doesn't say why Batman travels to Hong Kong.
- The IMAX preview with I Am Legend is the first five minutes of the film.
- "The whole thing is not 'Joker Begins', because we did not tell how the Joker became what he is," says Nolan. "During these five minutes it is shown how the the small crook becomes the most-dreaded gangster of the city - it is more like "The Rise of the Joker."
- Batman's new mask will have white lenses on the eyes when he turns on the Bat-sonar detection.
The Dark Knight hits theaters on July 18, 2008.

Dark Knight Countdown Pumpkin Not Looking So Hot
Hey, it's fun carving those pumpkins isn't it? Okay, it's a bit of work, especially that Batman logo-shaped mouth, but it's all good and fun, until you leave that pumpkin sitting there a bit too long. Yeah, it gets all nasty and you can't even pick it up anymore without having it fall apart on you while stinking up the place.
Someone should tell whoever put the pumpkin up on WhySoSerious.com the above, because just a few days more and it won't look so great anymore. Even now it's already starting to rot, see for yourself.
Hopefully it'll be cleaned up before that awful smell comes as well...
i suspect we might get a proper trailer on Halloween now instead of December.
