Hate is usually based in ignorance opr fear, which he professes of the whole "urban" image, and thus Pete's use of the word indicates he is ignorant of the merits of rap, which has that origin. He is also aussie, and the aggression and explicit criminal expressions in american hip hop is totally lost on most international audiences, as their music is pretty tame by the explicit standards of American music. Remember that, politically, Freedom of Speech is an American idea.

We as a culture have to accept that a huge component of rap is resentment for the corruption inherit in american society due to lack of reparation of the civil war torn south, and the integration of immigrants allowed citizenship in exchange for generations of slavery. This is the cre of the system as defined by the opponents of the *elite* influences that predominate it. This is not a element most other countries a. admit openly, or b. have allowed to exist this long without resolution.

Most international support for hip hop is from a desire to be more like Americans or to provoke racial injustice or retribution. In Japan you see the typical fan; a young man in a rainbow brite t-shirt wearing skin tight bootleg levi's and a leather bomber jacket, head bobbin as he be manglin tupacs words, and tries to comprehend what the hell Pac is saying. He'll say he LOVES that "gangsa jit" but in fact he don't understand a damn thing about it.

The real element of american culture and history that allows for hip hop has ,that no other country has is the Wild West, and the gold rush. Those unregulated days are the basis of gang activity, and still influence the image,.. complete with bandana, slang, and handsigns (which they adopted from American Indians as a means of communicating in secret).

But if the motivations and cultural opressions that mutate themselves into the basis of what rap is supposed to be protrayed as...is foreign to people not from america....how is it NOT ignorant for them to form an opinion on something they know nothing about....Granted, its not their fault that they don't know about it....but if I told Pete i hate that aussie bullshit cause it sounds so....austrailian......dude would get pissed and call me ignorant....and rightfully so.

Dislike is a better word to describe my feeling towards rap & hiphop. It's just is a very strong dislike.

Yes, I bloody "hate" when I hear rap and hiphop music, but I don't hate rap and hiphop artists individually. I wouldn't bash someone up just because they may like rap "music", or made rap "music".

I am not ignorant, the stuff I said is what I hear in modern rap and hiphop. I think about it alot.

And I genuinely think that it doesn't seem very credible, not musical. I don't hate all rap and hiphop in general.

I am not as uneducated on the topic as you may think. Yes there is more I can learn about it, but I now than I express.

It may not be as ingrained in local society as it is in America, but I can tell you that I'm SURROUNDED by rap and hiphop. It's everywhere. And that adds to fuel of my dislike towards it.

As I explained in my first post, it's the "urban" image that forms part of the root of my dislike. To me it seems ignorant, in a way. And I can tell you, I have a similar feeling towards country music.

Both are so STEREOTYPICAL, so cliche. It's not like you can just tap on a wall to make a beat, you have to go full-on with all the accessories, whether it's the cowboy hat and boots and flannelette shirts etc. or bandanas and jewellery and stuff etc., to be part of those things.

I think, "just because they live out west, do they really have to be full-on country bumpkin hicks?" Same goes for the urban situation.

In fact the same goes with all music. For instance I love metal- thrash speed metal especially. But I don't go walking around in black t-shirt and jeans and long hair that hasn't been washed in week, doing the devil "horns" and shouting "FUCK YEAH!" at everything I think is cool.

And LostGhost, although I am very proud of my Australian heritage, I can tell you that sometimes it bugs me, just too cliche and sterotyped, overdone. There was a news report that said 50% of people ina survey said it was "un-Australian" to not drink alcohol. I thought "what a heap of bollocks! You can't tell me what nationality and culture I am just because of what I drink!" That REALLY riled me up!

So I guess, what really has come out of this discussion, is that I dislike how modern rap and hiphop is so CLICHE and stereotyped, and that it seems ignorant and stuck. At least to what I've been exposed to.

I really don't understand it. I have no problem with Muslims at all. Religion to me is regardless in determining a person's character. Although I do respect someone who has faith in something good, no matter what that may be (not something stupid like in orange, or celeb-sheep etc.).

Hmmm, I just realised that this particular post is not off-topic. In fact it helps explain my "hatred" of rap and hiphop.

I dislike modern rap and hiphop, because I feel it has strayed away from its fundamental principles, and become a cliche, materialistic, and stereotyped form. I guess that also supports my statements that I think modern rap does not seem genuine and "unmusical", I feel that there is no underlying genuine purpose or strive in the music, which degrades it of quality.

How wierd, I am right now listening to a song (and album) called ...And Justice For All, which pretty much is a big middle finger towards the corruption and injustice of right-wing government...
