QUOTE(Lost Ghost @ Oct 11 2006, 02:28 PM) Huh?
I've never seen the NFL Superbowl, apart from in the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. But I guess the situation would be the same, two teams rivalling against each other, the competition is at its fiercest, very tense atmosphere, it's a bloody, & muddy, battle on the field....
Don't they have brawls in the Superbowl? It's like the soccer, you don't just knock the opponent to the ground, you RAM them into the ground. And anything can be the slightest trigger, leading to a big brawl, or, punch-up if you will.
Somehow, the State of Origin doesn't feel as special, doesn't have the magic in the air, if they don't punch up a couple of times. It's like they are sissy, too weak.
As I said, it is kind of strange that I'm advocating such violence in sport, when I firmly oppose it in most cases.
Is that why you & Rueben are confused??

I am talking about conflict in contact supports. This case is a classic example.
Don't be so ignorant. It's quite clear that this is a universal situation.
Oh, just to add to this reply:-> If I had stated that I considered American Football to be nothing but a bunch of puffed-up bloated dolls senselessly smashing into each other while two of them play catch.......you would regard me as being ignorant, and rightly so. I don't know that very much about the particular sport, just a few brief glimpses, and one day mucking about playing the game with friends, poking fun at getting away with "extended forward passes"...that my ignorant remarks were based on. But honestly from what I see you folks talk about in this forum, it's quite clear to me that there definitely is alot more to the sport than my initial callous judgement, so I am open-minded enough to learn to understand more about the sport. I don't participate in many of the sports discussions, but I do read some of them from time to time, and do contribute my knowledge & opinions occasionally, such as what I spoke about earlier.
This is the SPORTS forum, not the NFL forum, so please don't be so ignorant. In fact, rather you're being more of a hypocrite.

K, Pete, LG isn't the only one. I still have no idea what the fuck you're talking about... There are no brawls during the Super Bowl... and there shouldn't be.

Hi Drew,
Basically I said that beating up someone in sport, is not acceptable at all, no matter what sport it is.
I felt like you were being ignorant towards Rugby Leage, by saying "back to the NFL". It seemed like you had no interest in what I was saying, like nothing mattered at all except NFL. I see now that you did make an effort to learn, so I am grateful.
Rugby League is a sport where two teams of 13 players score points by touching the ball on the grass of the opposite side's goal area, called a "try". Each try is worth 4 points, and when the ball is successfully kicked through the H-shaped goalposts, immediately after the approved try, 2 points are added. It originated in England, and is a variation of Rugby Union, which is also played in Australia, northern England, South Africa, & New Zealand. The National Rugby League is the main assocation of the sport in Australia. Although, in Australia, only 3 states (Queensland, New South Wales, & Victoria) play the sport.
It's a contact sport, very rough, and apart from shin-pads, mouthguards, and shin-pads, no protective gear is worn.
The issue with getting too rough and smashing the hell out of another player, as what happened in the case brought up in this topic, in the American NFL, is similar to what happens in Rugby Leage.
About the State of Origin- as said previously, only 3 states play the sport. Originally it was just New South Wales that played in the NRL- alot of Queensland players had to play for NSW teams, until they got their own teams (only within the last 26 years or so). The "State of Origin" was developed, where players in New South Wales, could play against their team players, by playing in a statewide team- a team composed of players based on what state they were born, or where they first played the sport. Since it's only been Qld & NSW for the majority of the years, it's only 2 states, so the rivalry is quite strong.
Each state gets quite territorial and violent towards each other, and the players especially vicious on the paddock. In fact the tension is so great, it is even greater than the Grand Final (equivalent to the Super Bowl). Three games are played, one in each state, and the decider on "neutral ground" (usually in Victoria).
The State of Origin has been famous/infamous for the players to get so aggressive towards one another, that they break out into fights. Because spectators also become rather heated as well, it seems to add to the tension and the whole atmosphere of the game. Somehow (at least to me) it has become part of the ritual of the game, that at least one has to break into a punch-up, otherwise known as a brawl.
The very fact that I have this idea in my head, completely contradicts my view that profusely fighting just because of one's issues (no matter what they are) is completely unacceptable in all sports.
I hope that I've made it clearer. Honestly now I feel that I'm at fault because my wasn't able to express myself clearly enough.

My avatar is an indicator. The text below is even more descriptive. By tomorrow-ish I'll update my avatar, it should explain things alot better, at least you'll get the gist.
