A New Member of the Month is someone who immediately gives a good impression when beginning their membership to the community.

The Poster of the Month should be someone who has already been a member of the community for a while, already firmly aquainted, found their place. And during a particular month, have demonstrated very good qualities while participating in the community.

They aren't the same thing. A candidate for Poster of the Month should at least be given 2 months to prove themselves.
