3. Alex Rodriguez - Mariners, Rangers and Yankees. Biggest contract in MLB. Tied with steroid use while on the Rangers. Cheated on his wife.
4. Terrell Owens - 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys and Bills. Full of talent but always runs his mouth and hates every single QB he has ever had throwing him the ball. Curse to any team that signs him.
5. Kobe Bryant - Superbly gifted basketball player, career all with the Lakers. Known to be selfish. Worst incident was cheating on his wife with a complete slut that later on claimed he raped her.

Not seeing a major trend so far?

American audiences are sick of ESPN's general and hot-topic man-crushes?

When Michael Vick found a new employer, the battleground was immediately marked off for the inevitable battle between animal rights protesters and whoever they decide to get mad at. The battleground will be Philadelphia, and to a lesser extent, the eight cities the Eagles will briefly visit over the course of the season.

There will be different groups conducting different protests for different reasons, and they'll all take different approaches. Some will be more inflammatory and destructive than others. Some people are mad as hell that Vick is back in the NFL, and they want to make someone's life miserable because of it.

My advice to those people, and anyone who feels the need to protest Michael Vick's presence in the NFL, is this: Don't do it that way. Don't take an attacking, vengeful, scorched-earth approach to this. For one thing, it's not going to work, and for another, it's not where your focus should be.

I don't support or malign Vick either way; but to those that hate Vick's "reward" of being able to play in the NFL again: there is still no guarantee of this happening. First off, it's not up to biased dog-loving fans to choose Michael Vick's fate, but to the board within the NFL, and Commisioner Roger Goodell, both of which feel as though Vick is contrite enough to be given a chance to recover from his mistake, and still feel that they can market & profit from his uncanny athletic ability. Secondly, Goodell up to this point, is only allowing Vick to be signed mininally to any team that will have him, (this case, the Eagles, for ONE year, and an option for a 2nd-year renewal) to train extensively with the team and learn the playbook accordingly -- and finally, an option to display himself in the final two preseason games as an athlete.
Vick may or may not be reinstated within the first six weeks of the upcoming season, and Goodell could still blindside both Vick and the Eagles by disallowing Vick the opportunity to participate in any games for this season, and the next season, and the next, and perhaps indefinitely. A permanent ban is still feasible (I'd say, if what is said about Goodell's mean streak, this could be as high as an 8% probability). Goodell holds the entire deck of cards here. It's entirely up to Vick to earn his keep and exercise forgiveness, awareness, all that jazz, and in turn, Goodell to realize Vick's efforts and base a ruling off this. Though fan/hater vocalization plays a small part in the weight of the decision, it is so interspersed and nonsensical that it is best left ignored.

I just don't get the rationale of those that base their decisions off "favorites" or their emotions... just see this as it is: Vick killed a few dogs, smoked a bit of pot, maybe illegally gambled and profited from the dog-fighting, and has lost both face and all assets. His character in the past is not the issue here; it is whether or not he can bow his head low enough and keep a serious face in regards to his future impact in the league. He is only getting a second chance because he still holds name recognition. Whether or not he'll prove that it was a good idea to allow him even the glimmer of playing professionally on the field again is still up in the air.

What a media frenzy this Vick situation is.

I will put in my 2 cents...

I live in Atlanta, and when we signed Vick several years ago I was beyond happy. But even before the dogfighting incident, he showed serious flaws in his character. He really let down a lot of people that supported him.

Flash to now... I think the man deserves a second chance, like any man should have. His support base with Dungy, Reid, and McNabb is incredible.

It is on him now. He does not have to be the rockstar he was before, but if he is productive, and STAYS OUT OF TROUBLE, lots of NFL fans will give him the benefit of the doubt.

^ see now that is how I hope the average NFL viewer and the average person feels (not to call you average raijin) I just hope there is a majority of fans who, despite his missteps are willing to give him a second chance over hating and protesting anything that has to do with Vick until the day he dies.

I don't really understand why the Eagles are the ones to extend their hand to him....but I'm happy he's with a team.

How many people never even make it to the NFL level? This guy makes it, gets paid franchise QB money and then blows it. I don't think anyone convicted of a crime and serves prison time deserves a second chance in the NFL. They can play Arena League for all I care...but the NFL is the top of the mountain and not deserving of second chances like that.

Man, please...The NFL is a shithole...

The NFL earns more money than all the other sports combined probably, but pay their best players, with more on the line than any other sport, considerably less...Do you realize you could be a top flight NFL player, suffer a career ending injury, and not be able to get a pension..? The A-Rod's and CC Sabathia's of the NFL make almost 3x's less than the A-Rod's and CC Sabathia's...Not to mention all the problems people have with getting adequate care after the game... Guys go out and get the crap kicked out of them for 10 years and have shit to show for it, they had to practically be forced to become an equal opportunity employer, and you have people sitting in places who have never even played the game sitting up deciding how its to be played...

How you figure the NFL gets umpteen chances, and players get one shot..?

What does top of the mountain mean? The place where the best players play? If so....I don't see how that carries with it a requirement of having all the players be saints....

It's a professional athletic league....if you can play ball better than 99% of the people in the world, that's all you need. If Vick can still play with the big boys...he'll have a roster spot...its that simple. Why would he have to go play in a lower league (Arena league isn't even having a season this year....)...what sense does that make?

There are a lot of assholes in the NFL. You think Haynesworth should still be there? Or are you calling for his head too? What about Brett Favre for throwing that chop block last night? Should he be suspended indefinitely?

I don't understand what you're saying in terms of how it is even a possibility... If a dude beats his wife middle of the season, he gets suspended for being an asshole? Not to mention....what would you define as a crime..because if you're sending all players out of the league for committing any type of crimes...NFL may have to cut some teams from the league...
