Ja, Cap was the only mortal worthy of lifting it.

Well, they said it was WWII - right?

Does this mean we will see the Invaders? (Cap was a member of this team, which was encouraged to stay together at the behest of Churchill, right?)

Because the Invaders (I seem to remember) inspired heros to form the Avengers, and that was before they found Captain America again.

Of course Superman lifted it while getting a handjob from Lois at the same time..! Duh..!

I think Hulk lifted the hammer too, but I don't know how 'worthy' he was of doing it...It was just too damn powerful for it to stay on the ground..Knocked the shit out of Thor when he picked it up too...But, for what its worth, he did strain to pick it up at first...

World War II has been done more times than Jenna Jameson...After you have great, serious pieces that succeed in the era like Saving Private Ryan, I feel like I know or have seen anything about that I care to see...Plus, WWII isn't the place for a Superhero if you ask me...I can't imagine this being good man...I just can't...

that is why my idea of making the avengers next, and introducing Cap as the field commander - etc. like in this thread i wrote it. would work really well.

Is John Krasinski Our Captain America?

In the search for a likable, all-American hero that can fill the red, white, and blue costume of Captain America and stand toe-to-toe alongside Iron Man, one potential candidate that hasn't been mentioned is The Office star John Krasinski. Heat Vision just released a short list of candidates for the role that includes Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel and Michael Cassidy. They claim most of these guys are screen testing for the role this week. However, Cinematical received word yesterday through an anonymous tipster that Krasinski is all but a sure thing for the role of Marvel's star-spangled Avenger in Joe Johnston's upcoming film The First Avenger: Captain America. Surprised?

It's exactly the kind of off-the-beaten-path casting that reaped huge rewards for Marvel when they put Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man armor. Krasinski is charismatic and funny, he's the right age for the part, and he's filled with the sort of wide-eyed youthfulness that plays up Captain America's steadfast WWII-era optimism. Whoever they choose needs to be someone that can realistically muster an equal amount of screen presence as Downey Jr (for that eventual Avengers team flick), and I think Krasinski is better suited to this task than some of the recently rumored names (like Robert Buckley). Some weight training and the right script, and he just might be a perfect, albeit completely unexpected, fit for the part.

If true, it's an inspired choice. I've been around long enough to remember people crying foul over the casting of Michael Keaton as Batman or some unknown named Hugh Jackman getting the role of Wolverine right at the last minute. Remember the fan outcry when they announced pretty-boy Heath Ledger as the Joker? That turned out pretty well, didn't it? I have no doubt that Krasinski would do his best to bring the Marvel character to life, if the rumor holds true.

Do note that as of now this is still a rumor, and negotiations are a tricky animal. Until officially confirmed, file this under a big fat maybe.

Yeah I heard about that. His name & 7 or 8 others are being bandied about by the studio. The Burn Notice guy is my 2nd choice. My first one of those names is:

Dude looks & sounds the part. Has great acting chops & has been both skinny & buff in his rather diverse acting roles.

Zemo too eh? Oh man that shit is gonna be good. I hate to sound fruity but the guy that plays Cap has to be really good lookin cause wearing a real version of that outfit is tough enough but if your face is slightly off it's gonna look even sillier. Did you ever see that early 90's piece of crap that was made? The guy was chinless and it really showed when he wore that mask so I think a real chisled face is needed for the part to pull it off.

Cripe I feel like a fruitsalad now. I have to look at some pussy to remind myself I'm a hetero male.

A bud of mine is rooting for some other cantidate who she says "is the quarterback from Friday Night Lights tv show" whatever that means.. Do you guys know this show?

Yeah, I once rented the 90s Cap Vs The Salami Skull on tape for a laugh. It was a huge turd.

From what I've been reading lately, the Cap they are now making's look will be more based off Ultimate Captain America (ditto for Thor's look too apparently) ,ie no wings on the head & wearing pants.

Does this mean he'll be more jingoistic & rednecky then?

I think that's the dude that played Gambit in the Wolverine movie.

That will look like shit if they skip the wings. That's what I hate about the Ultimates. Cap without wings is like Batman without the ears. And if they make Thor look like the Ultimates version I WILL BE PISSED!!!!!! He looks like a fuckin WWE wrestling turd in the Ultimates and his hammer is ghey!

Nah it ain't the aussie dude who played Gambit. It's some built like a tank guy apparently who is a huge comics fan but has yet to land a role in a comic movie.

Yup, that's the way I see it: If you are gonna make a guy wear the flag, might as well go the whole hog! That's what I love so much about about Brubaker/Epting's Cap. The outfit looked more realistic than the way Rogers was previously drawn during the eras that came before. The chainmail looked legit & dude ran around with a combat utility belt & you could see the stitches in the mask etc etc
