Hmmmm, apparently there's an OEM version available now? Anyone stumble upon this?

The place where it is all happening is here: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=6928

Download link is on the first page, first post by Hazar.

It does work. It installs a bootloader onto your computer that fakes a pre-activated OEM version of both Win 7 x64 and x86. So yes it does come up as Genuine when it reboots.

Because it installs a bootloader, it may not work for those of you that dual boot two or more operating systems on your computer.

A Linux GRUB boot loader? I'm familiar with that from many of the Windows Vista OEM downloads on the web.

I don't think this is the same thing as the Chinese leaked OEM build though.

Read the thread and some of the other posts on that site. They've used the info from the Chinese Lenovo OEM iso to get a valid key. They've coupled that with valid bios instructions from laptops to make a bootloader that activates Win 7 on any computer in both x86 and x64 versions of Ultimate.

Essentially the hack is faking Win 7 to see it is running on a pre-activated system.

If you read some of the other topics there, they show how to make a pre-activated iso - but as far as I understand you also have to hack your bios to make it work. I'd look into it more but right now I just don't see value in pursuing that.

I never kept up with the latest in Vista activation hacks, but I believe they all relied to a certain extent on faking pre-activated OEM systems. So maybe Win 7 will be the same? I'm not sure there were simple hacks to get Vista genuine like there were for XP.

At any rate, the Hazar method works and it seems reasonable to presume it will continue to work until M$ releases an SP1 like the did with Vista to kill early Vista hacks.
