Much better on DVD than it was in the theatre (if you have as big ass TV).

Did you buy or rent? I think I'm going to buy it this weekend.

Bought it. The story pacing flowed much better than it did for me at the multiplex. I'd definitely say it's a good companion to the original.

Blu-Ray is a must for movies like this.

Although I like Scarlett Johansson quite a bit I'd say the whole "Avengers" thing is not needed. IMO the first was better because it was all about Iron Man.

They were trying too hard to service the upcoming films that the focus on Iron Man was sometimes lost.

[WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T SEEN IRON MAN 2]
Sometimes? I'd say that it was 50% Iron Man and 50% Avengers prequel. The initial fight with Ivan Vanko (aka Whiplash) was over all too quickly. Then there weren't any battle scenes until the end against all the droids. Then that last fight against Vanko again lasted all of 2 minutes.
The War Machine thing was inevitable but they could have done it better. To make it a by-product of the weapons developer competition was lame IMO. It didn't explain how he was even able to wear the suit (and steal it) to begin with. I know he had the access code to the vault but they mentioned something about nobody but Stark being able to wear it - primarily because of the arc reactor in his chest I assume?
Tossing in Scarlett Johansson as eye candy was a good idea (I'd rather see a voluptuous 25 year old than a rail thin 38 year old Gwyneth Paltrow) but her whole Black Widow costume was bad. Well, it was pleasing to the eyes but she didn't even use the energy blasts from the wrist bands.
Just lame all together in my book. But that's how Marvel Studios helps feed that cash cow. They throw away potential quality stories for introductions and spin-offs. They killed Blade with it. Spiderman has been ruined to the point they are making a remake? X-Men is no more.

issues:
1. i felt like everyone in this movie was having a bit too much fun and not being so good at, ya know, acting? rourke was the best one in the movie in terms of delivering a GOOD performance. spot on russian accent. though the other arms guy was too, even if his role was noodly.
scar jo is just not a good actress. hot tho.
2. half the stupid movie was about a party
3. the droids looked like they were made by a different quality of animator. meh.
4. the soundtrack is something that was just meh
5. should i want to see avengers, now? i mean really that was what i felt they were trying to tell me.
6. when did rhodey get the keys to stark's kingdom? It wasn't until rhodey was there as iron man on several occasions that stark trusted him enough to make a suit - and for a good reason.
7. i hate that everyone knows stark is iron man. i am falling out of love with this stark.
8. all the work whiplash did on those droids and not any 'no friendly fire" directive? jeez.
it insulted the first one, wasn't fun for me. and i have lost the taste for comic movies altogether.
