Your doing correct math... not Ruff Rider math.

But, fine, add 0 to 1... what do you get? 1. You did the computation without error am I right? So, therefor, 0 has to be a quantifiable number.

I'm only going to say this one more time....
1/0 is invalid not because 0 is not a valid number, but because "1/0" is an exprssion that REPRESENTS infinity. 0 can be quantified and understood (by me at least). The absence of value is absolute...just as 1 is also an absolute value. Infinity is neither absolute nor quantifiable. 0 does not = infinity. If it did, I would take my checking account to a "0" balance and then really go crazy shopping!

Regarding negative numbers... can you have negative of something? It's all a matter of perspective. Do you have a credit card? Every time you purchase on credit you are using an absolute value in a negative direction. -1, -4, -8, etc are numerals which represent the absolute values of 1, 4, and 8 which are the actual values. thus your credit card balance goes up in a seemingly positive direction, while your networth goes down. End up lopsided from this and you file bankruptcy. + and - are really nothing more than indicators of direction. given this, 0 is unique (and therefore excluded by some as a number) because it has no direction. +0, -0, 0, |0|, all represent the same thing which is a lack of value and direction. It is alpha (but not omega). Without it, 1 has no value since 1 means nothing more than an increase of 1 unit from the starting value of 0 (regardless of direction).

Now, where is that wet cat I hit with my car in the rain... I need to bury it before it stinks up the place.

Thank you for that explanation which SHOULD clear up the discussion once and for all.

And as for the wet cat... I like to hit it every once in a while too, raining or not. I usually use something other than my car though...

Tengo un gato en mis pantalones.

0 is still a number.

Maybe I should have been more specific and described the car as a "hummer stretch limo".... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

let's make this more interesting and talk about infinity instead! infinity/infinity is not equal to one! and also, there is such a thing as negative infinity.

oh well, i think that discussion belongs in another thread! lol /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />

If you think negitive numbers exist, then negitive infinity should to. As for infinity/infinity = 1 I sucked at math so I will pass. If I got checks, I got money baby.

Let me interrupt here....

Is "nothing" a word ?

Well, so is zero a number.
It signifies the numerical value of "nothing". It can be added to, it can be substracted from and it always leaves the other number of the equation intact. If there wasn't "Zero" we wouldn't know where to begin, because there HAS to be something between 1 and -1 that will be their intermedieate stage.

Better watch it.. when I said 0 was in fact a number, they tried to prison gang tackle and rape me in here. I still think it is a number though.

Are you guys even reading this thread? This is all old ground that has been covered....
Contrary to what you may think.... READING IS NOT OVER-RATED
