As soon as they got beat by the Dolphins, I knew that was coming...Weird that he has the rep for being an offensive minded coach, and a developer of QB's, when if there is a home and a place where the phrase 'caretaker QB' was invented, it was in Baltimore...

Dolphins Fire Cam Cameron After 1-15 Season
Cam Cameron was fired as the Miami Dolphins' coach Thursday by new boss Bill Parcells after plunging to an 0-13 start in his first year on the job and finishing with just one victory.
The dismissal comes three days after Parcells ousted general manager Randy Mueller and means the reeling franchise will have its fifth coach in five seasons.
Parcells began work Dec. 27 as executive vice president of football operations and quickly concluded the Dolphins need another fresh start.
It has been 37 years since the Dolphins fired a coach. But they never finished 1-15 before.
All but two members of Cameron's coaching staff were also fired, although some might be rehired by the new head coach, the Dolphins said. Retained were assistant special teams coach Steve Hoffman and linebackers coach George Edwards.
Meanwhile, Chris Mortensen of ESPN has confirmed through sources that the Dolphins will consider six NFL assistants as Cameron's successor. Tony Sparano, the Cowboys' assistant head, is considered the favorite at this point. The other candidates:
• Maurice Carthon, Cardinals running backs coach
• Todd Haley, Cardinals offensive coordinator
• Mike Tice, Jaguars assistant head coach/tight ends
• Rex Ryan, Ravens defensive coordinator
• Leslie Frazier, Vikings defensive coordinator

Belichick Named Coach of the Year
New England's undefeated season now includes yet another achievement: Bill Belichick is The Associated Press 2007 NFL Coach of the Year.
The first coach since Don Shula in 1972 to lead his team through a spotless regular season, Belichick won the award Thursday for the second time in four years. In 2003, the Patriots went 14-2 and won their final 12 games. This time, Belichick's team rampaged through the first part of the schedule, then won a handful of close games on their way to 16-0.
Also getting votes were Dallas coach Wade Phillips and Jacksonville's Jack Del Rio (two each), and Indianapolis' Tony Dungy and Tampa Bay's Jon Gruden (one each).
The only other Patriots coach to win the award was Belichick's mentor, Bill Parcells, in 1994.

Adrian Peterson Named Offensive Rookie of the Year
Adrian Peterson is impressed. Not so much by his achievements, though he ran away with The Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting the same way he surged past opposing tacklers this season.
What has gotten the attention of the Minnesota Vikings running back is whom he joins as winners of the award.
"It's a great honor to join a list with names like those," Peterson said Wednesday when told that Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, Eric Dickerson and Billy Sims also won the award. "They are guys that I looked up to growing up. It's a goal that I set before the year started, to win rookie of the year, so it feels great to accomplish that."
Peterson, who set the league mark for rushing in a game with 296 yards in a 35-17 victory over San Diego, also had a 224-yarder in a win against Chicago. The key to Minnesota's improvement to an 8-8 record this season, he led the NFC with 1,341 yards rushing, second only to San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson in the league. His 78 points on 13 touchdowns were second in the conference.
Those numbers, compiled in 14 games, and his overall impact -- the Vikings struggled to pass the ball, yet were in the wild-card race until the final game -- earned Peterson 46½ votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. Cleveland Browns tackle Joe Thomas was the only other player receiving votes, 3½.

Patrick Willis Named Defensive Rookie of the Year
One NFL scout called linebacker Patrick Willis "a beast." And that was before Willis won The Associated Press 2007 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Willis' dominant performance could have been overlooked because his San Francisco 49ers went 5-11 in a mediocre division. Instead, his league-leading 174 tackles and presence all over the field made him a runaway winner and the fifth straight linebacker to take the honor.
Willis earned 48 votes Friday from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. Only Carolina linebacker Jon Beason, with two, also received votes.
Willis certainly looked capable of just about anything as he did just about everything in 2007. The 11th overall draft pick from Mississippi was a dynamic presence from the first practice with the 49ers, and by season's end, opponents were scheming to avoid him.
It didn't work very often, witness his total tackles and four sacks and his ability to disrupt the opposition. He made 11 tackles in the season opener and had at least 10 in 10 games. His high was 20 against Tampa Bay, when Willis also had two sacks.
Willis is the third 49ers player to win the award, joining tackle Dana Stubblefield (1993) and cornerback Bruce Taylor (1970).

Six-time Pro Bowl fullback Mike Alstott announced his retirement after 12 seasons Thursday, saying goodbye to the NFL during a tearful news conference in a meeting room where the Buccaneers played a highlight film of some of his most memorable plays.
The Bucs all-time touchdown leader spent the 2007 season on injured reserve with a neck problem that was not related to a career-threatening injury that required surgery in 2003. He held little hope for a return, but still had difficulty saying his career was over.
"Though mentally I feel like I can continue, physically I can't," he said. "The second injury to my neck will prevent me from playing football forever."

Alstott was one of my favorite players on one of my least favorite teams. Very much in the Daryl "Moose" Johnston mold. I'm sure he'll be in the booth or the studio as soon as he wants to.

Vikings Udeze Diagnosed with Leukemia
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Kenechi Udeze has a form of leukemia, which is cancer of the blood and bone marrow, a person with the team confirmed Tuesday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the information. The Vikings declined to comment, but they issued a statement from coach Brad Childress that didn't specifically address Udeze's condition.
"We respect the privacy of Kenechi. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Minnesota Vikings organization are with Kenechi and his family," the statement read.
Generally, it's a serious disease that can be fatal and takes a lot of time to fight. The upcoming season is in question for Udeze, who was drafted out of Southern California in the first round in 2004. He started 15 games last year for the Vikings and tied his career high with five sacks.

Josh Booty subdued by Taser, booked on suspicion of drunken driving

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- Former NFL quarterback Josh Booty was subdued by sheriff's deputies with a Taser gun and ended up with a black eye Wednesday after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Booty, the older brother of Southern California quarterback John David Booty, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after being pulled over on the 55 Freeway in Santa Ana, Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Hal Brotheim said.
During the booking process, the 32-year-old Booty -- currently working as a television and radio sportscaster -- became belligerent and deputies used the Taser, Brotheim said.
"After being Tased, he was fully compliant," Brotheim said.
