I just started reading this book. I'm about 20 pages in. It's pretty good. It's written by Lt Gen Mike DeLong, and he gives his account of 9/11, Afghanistan, and Iraq. One of the funniest parts in the book so far:
In front of a large group of generals and colonels, Franks caught me off guard and laid into me, asking me if I thought I was the commander, if I thought I did policy, and so on. I asked the other officers in the room to leave, which they happily did. Then I turned to Franks.
'Don't you ever do that again,' I snapped back at him. 'If you want to chew my ass out , that's your prerogative. But don't you ever do it in front of anybody else. If you want me to support you and want me to continue to have the respect of these other generals, you cannot do this in front of them.'
Franks stared back at me. I don't think anyone had ever talked to him like that.
'Fuck you, DeLong,' he said.
I walked out of the room. I had made my point. And he never did it again."
Only in the military... lol
