Registry Cleaners

I once had this huge java source file on my laptop that no matter what I did would make my IE homepage to this evil site...
Anyway after heaps of hunting I had finally managed to delete that file. This was ages ago though. The problem was though that every time I booted the laptop I got a msg script not found. So what I want to do is clean my registry so that the msg does not pop up again...
Any thoughts ?

There is a program posted here called Tune Up Utilities 2006...It is a great app, download it, run the tools, and you should be fine...
But what you may have, is an issue with something booting up in your startup...
Make sure that your startup folder is clear (Start > All Programs > Startup) of anything you don't want to come on when you start up your PC...That program that I suggested also has a startup cleaner, you can open it, and uncheck that program that's trying to start up when you turn on your computer....Once you install the program, the path would be: "C:Program FilesTuneUp Utilities 2006StartUpManager.exe" ...
If that doesn't take care of your issue, you may have some lingering spyware...

The two registry keys that dictate what loads at startup are:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
a really nice lightweight program that installs to your control panel is: Startup Control Panel (clever name eh?) available from mlin.net. It is free and he has some other handy little apps there too.
If you can not find relief with these tips, if you are using windows xp, create a new user profile. This will rectify lots of problems that you might have thought re-installing was the only way to fix.
My reluctance with registry cleaners/scanners is sometimes they can get a little overzealous and end up creating more problems than they fix. My personal experience was with a scanner that destroyed my MS Office 2003 ability to update which had a trickle down effect to Windows update.

make sure you review all the changes/deletions the scanner proposes and do not let it change anything that you are unclear what it might do

Adaware and spybot might also help.
