So I've got this new computer (from work) and it won't allow me to open or save RAR files. Here's an idea of the message i get:
"...could not be saved because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving to a different location"
It is just trying to save it to my temp folder.
Any ideas, on what i can do so that I can use RAR's.

Where are you trying to save the file (desktop etc...) what browser are you using and try clearing your temp folder.

You need to make sure that whatever folder you are downloading to, you are the owner...If you can create files and folders, then the problem sounds VERY IE related...God I hope not, LoL...

It does it even with FF. I went and checked the permissions and it looks to me like I have full permissions. Now that i think about it, it may be more RAR specific becasue I can save and open zip files without any trouble and i can download wmv, etc. as well. I had trouble extracting RAR's as well. HMMMMMMMMMMM.

sounds like something with the temp folder.
use options, settings, paths and change the path to the temp folder to some you are sure you have all rights to.
might work. not sure. good luck.

is that the first time u tried winrar on ur computer? Ayhja's right, maybe ur winrar software is somehow corrupted. we have some winrar links in our software section.
i had similar experience, but with zip files. i tried using winrar on them and it worked. maybe u can try the reverse, use winzip with ur rar files. it might just work. (...haven't really tried that, yet. /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />)
good luck!

Since it is a work computer it kinda sounds like you don't have administration or at least write priveliges (shpelling?).
You could try saving the files into the folder that has your name on it and something like your private or your local files.
Failing all that, give WinRAR a miss and check out
http://www.7-zip.org - a far superior program if you have need for extreme compression and compatibility with almost everything - yes it does create and open everything including RARs/ZIPs/TARs and much more.

I tried to open an rar with tugzip, but I get an error saying..."cannot open C:/documents and settings/..."
Basically the same thing when I try to use winRAR.
