So a while back we did the GOAT threads per position. This time I'd like to do it as a team. You pick your players which you think have been or are the greatest of all time. Put them on a team and then we can debate. So here's mine:

C - Johnny Bench
1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Jackie Robinson
3B - Brooks Robinson
SS - Ernie Banks or Ozzie Smith
LF - Lou Brock
CF - Willy Mays
RF - Hank Aaron
SP - Nolan Ryan
RP - Mariano Rivera

I've been thinking about this topic since I saw it...Requires alot of thinking, cause unlike other sports, baseball is slightly tainted...

C - Pudge Rodriguez - You just fuckin try to steal if you want to...
1B - Lou Gehrig - Hard to argue that one AP, but I think I have a good case w/LG...
2B - Alex Rodriguez - Just cause he can't play SS, anybody that gifted is on my team, one way or the other...
SS - Cal Ripken - The Rock of the team...
3B - Brooks Robinson - 0wz the field...16 Gold Gloves holding down the hot corner..? Shid...
LF - Barry Bonds - Ummm....Who's better again..?
CF - Willy Mays - Would be great in any era
RF - Tony Gwynn - People are soon to forget the absolute BEST hitter in the modern era...Just try to strike him out...
SP - Roger Clemens - 'Scuse Me..?
RP - Eric Gange - Dude does his thing, and gotta have a dude w/glasses on the team, LoL...

C - Johnny Bench
1B - Steve Garvey
2B - Joe Morgan
3B - Mike Schmidt
SS - Alex Rodriguez
LF - Barry Bonds
CF - Willie Mays
RF - Pete Rose
SP - Sandy Koufax
RP - Dennis Eckersley

I'm a Dodger fanatic so I grew up thinking Steve Garvey was the shit. A-Rod belongs at short but he's about the best baseball player I've actually ever seen. You guys have decent teams but give me a game seven with this one and we're coming out victorious.

I REALLY thought hard about Ecks...But, there's no way you guys have a chance Homez...

Here's my line-up.

CF - Willie Mays
2B - Joe Morgan
RF - Pete Rose
LF - Barry Bonds
SS - Alex Rodriguez
3B - Mike Schmidt
C - Johnny Bench
1B - Steve Garvey
SP - Sandy Koufax

With this lineup and your pitching, I don't think we'd give you guys an opportunity to bat(mercy rule /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" /> ). Gagne was unhittable for a couple of years but he's been hurt and I highly doubt he'll come back with the same velocity in his fastball, the same break in his breaking ball, and the same effectiveness in his change. AYHJA if you want a pure defensive catcher and if you ever have the chance, take a look at the youngest Molina from the Cards. He can't hit worth a lick but nobody steals off him. If a baserunner makes it to second it was probably the pitcher's fault.

Trashtalkr, Pujols is a stud, no doubt, but he's really too young to even think about putting him with the great 1B in history. One day, if he stays healthy, he'll probably be the greatest.

How can you guys not have Charlie Hustle in your lineup??? That dude would spark a light up anyone's ass. How is baseball slightly tainted and other sports are not? Just out of curiosity.

I can't put Rose in front of Gwynn man..! It'd be unethical, haha...

And by slightly tainted, I mean that it was a long time before the sport was intergrated...LOOONG time...We essentially have no real marker to say how good the Negro League and other guys were simply because they didn't play one another...If in the same time frame, would Babe Ruth have hit all them homers if guys like Satchel Paige were pitching..? These guys that are playing today are hands down playing against the best competition there is...

Or at least that's my take on it...

Good point. I hadn't really thought of that.

In RF you've gotta have Hank Aaron! I forgot about Tony Gwynn. He would be a very, very good choice but I'm liking Hammering Hank.

I have a feeling that Pujols will be the greatest 1B of all time. That's why I put him in my lineup.

A, Gagne had about 2 good seasons and that's it. What have you heard from him recently? Nothing. Ecks does have a chance to be the best but what made Rivera my pick was his perfection in the postseason. He's also 3rd on the all-time saves list. But the playoffs is where he shines and that's where I want my closer to shine also

Shit man, I got Clemens...And with a lineup like that, Ra-El could close out them games...Gagne has been hurt a bit, but with Clemons, I really don't need a fantastic closer...Plus, like I said, if you don't have a dude w/glasses on your squad, its wack... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hank was that dude, but a career .305 hitter...I don't need a guy hitting that low...Gwynn is going to go to the plate and get a hit damn near 2 out of 5 times...Shit man, Gwynn, is the best hitter the game has seen by many accounts...Dude almost hit .400 for the season a couple times...That's crazy...600 at bats...19 strikeouts...And a gold glove...I'm good...

Shit man, I got a great mix of dudes that could hit for power and average, a pinch fo speed...I wish we had a simulator, I'd murder you and Vo's team....Hahaha...

I don't watch much baseball...nor to I know much about it....but I'll throw out some of my opinions....no yelling or being like "THE FUCK YOU TALKING ABOUT"...because I've already stressed how I don't know a darn thing lol....so this is basically just me picking out of what you three have put up so far lol

C- dont know who Bench is....so I'll say Pudge as well
1B- AP....I agree with Trash that he'll be the best of all time there.
2B- Jackie Robinson because he's just historic in his own right.
3B-Brooks Robinson ...dont know who he is...but since you guys both picked him.....he's mine too
SS- A-Rod.
LF- Bonds....before steriods made him fat and slow.
CF- Mays
RF- Gywnn.....I liked the arguement for him lol
SP- Clemons or Ryan....tough choice.....but I'll say Clemons only because I've seen him pitch and he's still doing his thing as we speak
CP- Rivera.
