I'd check out www.chiefvalue.com or www.zipzoomfly.com for cheap hardware.

mmm 1000$ are a lot of money...for a pc...you can build up something good...
I think that a good AMD 64 3200+ is a cheap and good choice...
1Gb Ram better 2slot so you can use the dual-channel
200Gb HD
motherboard DFI Lan Party is the best,or go on Abit...don't touch Asus AI System they are specially for overclockers and they are very sensible,I've broke one of them...
Graphic card...well well I don't know...beacause it's a loto time that I don't read something about new technology about graphics...For sure it must be on PCI Express, I think a x800 is a good choice...but is better if you look up on Nvidia, there are more games that support nvidia graphics card..

She is a cutie. Thats for sure. I know I wouldn't get a Dell... no matter what else is done, I would stay very clear from them. The CEO has them turned backwards and nobody knows up from down.

look for open items at best buy, and work from there... if she already has a monitor, she has saved a bit right there.

im also presuming her stack is supposed to include taxes. other than that, newegg is alwahys good for some stuff, or a decent ebay run could get something.

don't get a pentium 4

I looked at newegg.com and Chiefvalue.com is still cheaper. You can geta 19" LCD now for around $190 with speakers in the monitor. I would check Chiefvalue or Ebay, but Ebay is a "never know what you're gonna get" thing. It is a crap shoot.
