Ok, I know my machine takes PC3200 DDR RAM. I just got a 1 Gig stick from chiefvalue.com that is specifically for AMD basd systems. My question is this... can I use any other other type of RAM that may be a little more effective or is PC3200 the only way I can go?

Damn, bumping topics after a day..? LoL...
If your machine will take PC3200, that's the best it will go...So, if you put PC5400 in it, it will run like PC3200, no matter what...If you put in a stick of PC2700 in it will run like PC2700, if you put a stick of PC2700 in w/a stick of PC3200, both will run at PC2700 settings and so forth...

Well crap. I can upgrade it to 4 gigs... but only at PC3200.
And yes, I am not a patient person.

The current (well, old socket 9xx series, lol) chipset supports PC3200 only anyway, so yeh..
Personally, I haven't tried putting in any other type of memory, seeing as I don't wanna risk it, but I suppose Ja's explaination works fine here..
(mainly as I'm too lazy to research and put together my own conclusion, lol)

I just wanted to make sure the RAM I am using is the most efficient one I can use, I want to max out the RAM to get the most out of the system.
I know general things about computers, but not a whole lot on the hardware side of things. Thats what I am hoping I get better at by reading around on here.

speed up by overclocking (and frying the intestines of teh machine) - that is why I doubt Ay's explanation is entirely correct (it could be), but a possibility with PC2700 coupled with PC3200 is that both run at PC3200 (which is bus speed), so the lesser one gets fried.
but i am so far from being an expert, aeons actually. i'll see the big bang happening if i move any further.

I don't even know the difference between PC2700, PC3200, and PC 5700.
