Depends on how full they are, how many programmes you've installed and uninstalled, virus software, temporary files, etc.

Do a Disk Cleanup before defragmenting, otherwise you're just tidying up junk that don't need to be there.

CS... download CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) and use that to keep up the cleaning for you. It is free. Do that like once a week. You can also download System Mechanic (http://www.iolo.com/sm/6/index.cfm) and maybe someone from here can give us a crack to System Mechanic Professional or basic. I use that one to do all my maintanance in one shot.

The CCleaner does a more idepth cleaning than the windows disk clean will do. Plus you can check for registry errors on both programs.

Usually takes an hour for me... not too bad. I always forget to do the disk clean-up, though... lol

I think the CCleaner will help and a disk defrag is a must like once a week if you are on the computer alot.

I use the disk cleaner program that comes with TuneUp Utilities 2006 (Best swiss army app I've ever used) and I defragment with O&O Defrag...

I used to use Diskeeper, but I find that O&O has various modes of defragmenting, which I like alot...I defrag often, so my defrags never go over 30 mins, and that's w/a about 30% fragmentation...
