Where am I ?

Last week I was proof reading a friends philosphy essay despite my hectic week. The essay was based around a short story in which "Daniel Dennett" underwent a surgery in which he seperated his body(hamlet) from his brain(Yorick) and then through radio transmitters kept his body and brain together. The story is much longer and discusses a lot more issues.
But hyperthetically, say we were to do the same, where would we actually be? Would we be where our body is, or where our mind is? How does a soul play into all this ? or are we a discontinous being?
I dont quite remember the specs of the story or remember the name in itself of the short story. But I would like to see what you all think about this.

i agree with lg. we would be where the mind is.
i could substantiate that by referring to persons who have lost a limb and still feel it from time to time.
that's the mind right there.

The mind is the Center of Consciousness... so, the mind.

We are controlled by our mind but I would say that part of us would be in both places

there is no part that is the sum of the parts that comprise the whole.

What? You've gotta explain that a little bit Raum. It went a little over my head

ok, the "parts" of a person only reveal the person when they are united.
if you seperate them, they become something other than the person, each part of which will reveal some but not all of the qualities of the person.
thus the some of the whole is not equivalent to its parts. a simple non-eculidean truth.

QUOTE(ruffriders23)ya well, Home is where the heart is.
ruff...I'm going to ask you a serious question before I awswer this post...You can answer my question
http://www.ayhja.com/af/viewtopic.php?p=143131#143131 in that thread...I would like to know if the reason you were discharged from the military a mental one...I refuse to believe someone who has served our country so honorably, in a system based on following and maintaining order, would have as hard a fucking time following directions as you do...I refuse...Cause that post makes absolutely no fucking sense...We just flamed about trolling VU, yet, here this post is, adding nothing to the disucssion, its just another fucking worthless comment out in left field...Even fucking Forest Gump could follow simple directions...Man, I hope you find it in your heart to make a post somewhere, and spell shit out for us that are lost and confused about you, cause I don't get it...
Anyway, this reminds me of that post we had about that really great episode of Sopranos about travelling through the underworld...I think that it is completely and utterly possible to live completely within the mind, I think our cognition is what determines our physical...I think of a situation like the one presented in The Matrix, where bodies were strewn about all over a field, but in their minds, people were living life quite normally...I feel the body is simply a vessel for the core, much in a way a bottle is just a vessel for the message...
