I was having a moral discussion with the folks today...Seems I'm a bit of a low life..! LoL...

We all know the bible says something along the lines of 'Thou shall not kill'...

So, my question is this...If you are in a situation, where someone is definitely going to kill you...But you see a moment where you can kill them first...Do you do it..? Why or why not..?

sort of depends on what i am dying for really
if it's for someone else, or perhaps a better cause, no worries
i dunno, im not sure how my conscience would deal with knowing that i had killed someone

i guess it all comes down to motivation, and whether its all justified
but how do you justify killing someone for any reason
do i have the right to take life?

if i had to kill a guy to prevent a greater loss then yes, i think i would
then again if i were to be killed over something petty, perhaps id jump in first

The bible says DO NOT MURDER.

The word "murder" (i.e. kill the defenseless) is Ratsach.

To kill in battle is Muwth.

Muwth is part of the natural conflicts that arise from man's internal conflicts. Ratsach is to kill that which can not defend itself, i.e.

"No killing the defenseless in cold blood" is a far better translation.

of all of these, the only forbidden is Ratsach, which is a base Canaanite word, and evidence that the wording of the Ten Commandments is in a language developed AFTER the integration of the language of the Akanichu. And in the Canaanite tongue, the Ratsach is the Child Sacrifice, as an offering. Clearly, this is the practice that is being commanded to be excluded from the religion of the Hebrews. I believe this is because of the horror of the sacrifice of the male Hebrew Children by Pharoah.

Clearly, The God of the Hebrews does not want his people to offer up the children of their enemies as an offering to the God.

if you think this applies to soldiers meeting in battle, or men defending their lives, you apply to this a context not present in the Commandment as it was written. The wording is VERY specific.

If It said La Ha-Nakah, that would mean "No causing death." and that is not what it says... It says do not murder in cold-blood, in the context of child sacrifice, as was performed in Gehinnom.

if something is trying to kill me...and I can kill it first...I choose my life over theirs......barring some super unnatural and propospurus occurance.

Well, specifically, I think this is more about the religious practice.

How Abraham was called to Ratsach his son (Isaac or Ishmael, based on Jews and Muslims, respectively) while he was living among the Akanichu, even though he was not one of them. And how, since he was willing to obey god in that Sacrifice, his son was spared, and this was supposed to be indicative that all of the Sons of Abraham were spared this same sacrifice... thus as Abrahamites through his son Shem, the Hebrews were not to commit the Ratsach (child sacrifice), which was still being practiced by the Egyptians, Sumerians, Cannanites, and more.

it was also likely common sense that the Tribes in exodus would need every man-child to grow up that they could, to soldier their tribes into the Promised Land.

I would take that guys life. I would protect myself and who ever else is around me. After reading Ty's first post, I was planning on writing about the Bible saying don't murder until I kept reading and saw Raum's post. So no, I would kill someone who was innocent but if that fucker was coming at me or someone I loved, then I would easily take his life

I personally can not kill. I was mowing the lawn during the summer and accidently hit a baby rabbit. It was me or my dad cause he was using the trimmer and I was mowing. The rabbit's nose was snipped off and I figured that if I hit it, then it would have splattered all over me. But even seeing something that wasn't human lie there, squirming for help and me just standing there not knowing what to do, I was pretty down about that. It eventually stopped mowing and it's body was really limp. I felt so bad over that. So the question my life or yours, will definitely be my life.

I pity the fool who comes after me or mine. I will kill without hesitation to protect my life, the life of my family, my friends, or an innocent in life peril. I am armed constantly and will not hesitate. I have no conflict with the Bible or my morals. I have killed to eat, I will kill to protect.

No worries, no loss of sleep.
