Google is pushing YouTube as fast as they can to the legal track, and working hard to pre-empt lawsuits. One of their recent tactics has been offering companies millions of dollars upfront for the rights to use and distribute their material using YouTube. A bit different from licensing, it's just a huge lump sum to get the green thumb. Considering these companies aren't making money off YouTube as it is, it seems like a win win to many:

The discussions are said to be focusing on how media companies can best leverage the social-networking aspect of YouTube to get more viewers for their content without losing the money that would be generated from advertising. Google could offer lump-sum payments as well as long-term revenue sharing from advertising.

With many big companies settling or going into open partnerships with Google, there is very little reason for other media companies to have any reason to stay bitter with Google. Despite all the doubts many have cast over YouTube's future, Google seems to be handling it well.

Utube.com v. YouTube.com

Ohio pipe firm says confused web surfers are hurting its business
NOVEMBER 2--An Ohio pipe company whose website, utube.com, has been crippled by misdirected traffic seeking youtube.com, has sued the online video giant, claiming that the confusion has injured its business. In a lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court, Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment charges that the web address confusion has led to more than 70,000 visitors daily arriving at the pipe firm's web site looking for videos. Along with increased bandwidth costs (now at $2500 monthly, up from just $100), the company complains that the traffic crush has led to its servers crashing on multiple occasions

Google Owns AdSense.com Now

Nathan Weinberg reports that Google is now the owner of the domain adsense.com. The story goes a bit back when a company named the AdSense Consulting Group became Fed Up With Google AdSense, after receiving tons of unwanted traffic and inquiries on AdSense consulting services. They did not disclose the amount AdSense.com was sold for, but you can still visit the AdSense Consulting Group at www.adsense2.com. I wonder if Google will do the same with UTube.com, kinda similar to News.com's story that YouTube.com sued by UTube.com.

Yes, like Kramer said, YouTube is hosting TOO MUCH copyrighted material and it's kinda been targeted by media companies. At least those who don't seem to be willing to cooperate with mama Google /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
