found this.

QUOTEPLAYSTATION‚®3 allows any desired third-party system software to be installed on it besides its system software provided by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

amazing... I love it. bring on the Home dev!

couple that with USB connectivity all you want and an upgradeable HDD.

ps3 is starting to turn out even better than I imagined.

Just thought I'd point out from YLD's site:
QUOTEIs PS3 support for Linux improved over that of the PS2?

Definately. Sony has designed the PS3 to run Linux. Your experience as an end-user will be optimal.

wow, do you mean a COMPUTER can have a different OS on it???

DAMN YOU BILL GATES!!!!

wait till I tell my friends computers can run different operating systems than the ones preinstalled on them!!! We will all load Mac OSX on it and watch Microsoft go bankrupt.

microsoft is DOOM3D. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

sony made a nonportable gaming computer that has some exclusive games, none of which stand out as being worth the higher price-point.

still, I need to get ross to check some PC games on the PS3, with windows installed... and see if it adds up.

I was looking at maybe getting a non-portable unit, and will see if this meets my computer needs... but I'd rather have a larger internal harddrive and external power supply.

err. raum seems to be drunk there.

sony made a media center and it is all looking good. you got the most powerful processor on earth, lots of connectivity - like gigabit ethernet, wireless LAN, external USB for keyboards, mice, hdd's and the lot and plenty of memory cards -, it's got blu-ray and bluetooth connectivity (even working with standard headsets), it allows you to install the OS of your choice, plays PS3 games (which look as good first gen as do 360 2nd gen), a free online experience (and according to early reviews of resistance, a better one than 360 came to offer up to now), it plays 99.975% of earlier games AND it gives you an environment which allows home coding.... and still some are against this offering, because $600 for SONY's offering has been labeled to be expensive!

I only wonder... if you want that and holding Microsoft's pricing, how much would you end up paying? $700?! 800?! a bit more even?! I wonder: is it at all possible?!

Sorry raum. you do not give credit where credit's due.

and it ran decent for four and a half hours last night. but today, after 2/12 hours it burned up. i was on the phone with AYHJA talking while they were setting it up for public. so did the one in the EB in the mall, and the rep from sony told the people at the Gamestop near me to not turn it on. The Zone store had a problem reading blu-ray disks. All in all, of the five I saw TODAY, ONE did not malfuntion (but it was never turned on) and two are completely totaled. So play the thing before you talk about how good it is.

http://www.gamebrink.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11711

fear got delayed on the ps3 because it looked far worse than the 360.

marvel is not better either. the bravia monitor did not make it look any better.

So does my laptop, and so does my ps2 and my 360. hell, my cell phone does as well. so what do I need something else that will also do this for? does my stereo become a better value if it is forty dollars more expensive and now it lets me check my voicemail?

Resistance has its own online by Insomniac, not Sony's. and so, it has one game to support, not a the universe of XBox live which is proven for 4 years to be solid, and quic to respond to issues.

go play some games, learn what it is you speak of. the games are Oh-Kay, the fill rate is the first thing to go out and that sucks for me. http://www.gamebrink.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11711

metal storm is the best looking game on it and is lotsa fun for a racing game.

in game shots video, and FIRST HAND SIDE BY SIDE AND COMMON MONITOR testing reveal that they are comparable.

the ps2 games I WANT TO PLAY didn't work. xna will be on the market really soon, free dev kit for 360, pay a yearly fee to trade and play and get an awesome community of solid developers.
I only wonder... if you want that and holding Microsoft's pricing, how much would you end up paying? $700?! 800?! a bit more even?! I wonder: is it at all possible?!
see, there you go IF... that is a big IF.

Sony is AT LEAST four for five malufunctioning in my area, and offering me alot of stuff I already have. they have added functionality that is not consistently working, and my experience was not worth A CONSOLE, which is what I wanted. yawn.

watching kids play the wii and figure out how the stick worked was more fun.

360 is still my favorite console of the next gen. AFTER PLAYING ALL THREE.

how many have you played to be issuing all this credit, Brains?

do i really need to in order to form my opinion?

i think it is clear that all three consoles will have drab and dribble as well as excellent titles, no?

no. playing them is not necessary. i have formed my opinion based on what the customer gets for his money, how much effort is being put in the hard- and software and Sony clearly is offering a whole lot more; it is damn clear they are more expensive. They are almost putting their ass on the line in order to give us the best technology possible and yet all some of you can do is nag about how "expensive" their new machine is. Sony is actually going to co-finance me having that kind of technology a lot more than any of the other two. They gonna give me state-of-the-art technology for a mere $600; they gonna give me free online included and a PC to boot. Awesome value for money. But well. Seems like you are not open to that reasoning. Enjoy while you are being ripped off by Microsoft.

BTW... as for the crashes you mentioned. How on earth is it possible that - up to now - not a single report has leaked in about it? I check Kotaku more than daily, IGN, Gamespot, Gizmodo, Gamespy, Eurogamer, Gamedaily, Computer and Video Games, Joystiq, and google news, both sorted by relevance and by date. NO reports whatsoever have surfaced about crashing PS3's. Quite a coincidence you caught four. Amazing actually.

what is meant with "sonned"?!

Wow... so the evaluation of someone who has no first hand experience of a product is a valuable as a consumer in a market, who has sampled and purchase products... call an advertising agency and tell them that, man.

or a firearms manufacturer.

"After nine months of erratic combat conditions and test firing several weapons. I choose this gun as a sidearm for those who might be in the action soon."

"Um, I saw pictures of all of em and even saw some of the targets after firing, and i think you should buy one from a company that made guns that everyone had, but no, I haven't fired any of them.. but this one has a soup warmer in the stock and a digital abacus on the scope and the strap can be adjusted by the sound of your voice!!! so buy it. oh and just ignore the fact that they had to recall all their handgrenades because cell phones were setting em off... k?"

experience is the basis of evaluation.

QUOTESony clearly is offering a whole lot more

BUT I ALREADY HAVE ALL THAT OTHER STUFF EXCEPT the "NEW" BetaMax of the minute. but I am already beyond disks...

Do you really only watch movies from Disks? Me, I store my movies on a single memory device and don't even have to open the dvd cabinet to watch any of my movies. hell, with a +160 gig hd stuck in my 360, I have more media than I could ever buy, and some stuff that is never for sale, and by networking through my wireless network, I can watch something different in the bedroom than a file in the same device being watched in the living room. Blu-Ray, That is cool, will I watch "Mr. Mom" again in a new format because I can see how much more alcholism has taken its toll on Michael Keaton. no thanks. I won't even watch the Matrix again to see how much more I can see the threads of Neo's shirt. Why, because I have crap to do.

but, see I ALSO HAVE A kickass dvd player, with TWO USB SLOTS AND a multi card reader embedded slot as part of my surround sound.... and through network, I can be working on my laptop in the kitchen while working on a recipe for thanksgiving... so that usb drive is NOT in my 360, but on my router, and my surround sound dvd player is as well ...and a completely different power supply is being taxed when my girl watches sex in the city dvd extras or whatever than the one that runs my games. and if she can't see how bad that one chick's boob job is cause its not in 1080i or better, then tough for her.

cause, IF EVER, I sit down to play my games, and she says "um, I think it broke while I was watching those girls blow the FedEx guy." I will go nuts.

You want a swiss army knife, fine. I have a better screwdriver set and all the tools of it and alot more in a better design that takes up a just a little bit more space, about the space of a roll of coins in a pencase I PUT TOGETHER FOR much less of the cost...

If you use your GAMING CONSOLE for EVERYTHING, not just gaming time... it suffers more heat content. my 360 is cool when I am running a usb port to my surround sound dvd player, or when I am surfing online...

as for the overheat, i thought it was really funny. and do some homework: on my first yahoo search.

QUOTEWhile at Gamestop in Pasadena tonight, I noticed they had a PS3 set up in a kiosk, but it was not on. I asked the guy working there if it was hooked up and he said "yes" but that it overheated within 30 minutes of booting it for the first time, and they could never get it to play a game. I laughed out loud and the guy looked at me like I was an asshole.

I then handed him 150 bucks in exchange for my new wireless 360 force-feedback racing wheel. God, I am an asshole.
