I am not sure how many people are fans of Illinois here but was curious as to what everyone thought of the Chief Illiniwek debate.

It is all over local news again because the NCAA are trying to crack down further and the school/trustees are beginning to crack somewhat under the pressure. There was even that recent incident where a professor found out which recruits (basketball?) were seriously considering Illinois and sent letters to all of them asking if they really want to attend and represent a school with Chief as their symbol.

What are everyones' thoughts on this?

Wow....this is some old news. I didn't know this was still going on. I think it's stupid that the NCAA is trying to change the mascot. It's part of the university and part of our history. Don't change that

I am only OK with this sort of thing if those being depicted are OK with it...I'm not sure if this is the same as w/FSU, who has the blessing of the Seminole cheif to have them as their mascot...

Otherwise, its a horrible thing to have a mascot, and I wish it wasn't a part of football...

The only problem I see with any of this could be the "Redskins" which is a derogatory term for Native Americans....the rest of them don't have anything negative in my opinion...and it appears the opinions of many Native Americans.
