Okay so I know everyone has seen my location...and noticed how proud I am of my girls for winning a state championship last year....and I say my girls because the stars of the team have been my good friends for a few years...and my best friends in the last couple...so I was their number one fan when we were junoirs...and now I'm managing them senoir year.
And to anyone who says anything about that.....I get free shoes, free clothes, free meals, excused time out of school, to watch tons of basketball, stay close and spend time with my best friends, play a lot to get in shape and work on my own game, and practice out some coaching techniques...... all for getting out the balls, sweeping the floor, and taking the baskets down? I'll take it...every time.
(This thread will also serve a double purpose, as a place to keep track of my own basketball season which starts up in about a month...which I'm proud to say I'll be in the best shape I've ever been in when getting into it...so it's about time for me to make an impact. My (Realistic) preseaon goals are 16 PPG and 8 RPG..taking into account it's a 24 minute GAME...I think those'll be good marks to try and reach)
But back to the main focus....dem girls..and dat team.
We won state last year and only lost 3 players....all of them only playing minimal minutes anyway...none of them having any sort of impact on the team. We have 4 D-1 scholarship senoirs...2 soon to be D-1 Scholarship junoirs and 1 D-1 sophomore..
Let's start with the senoirs....
PF # 50 "Mavo" (nickname coined by me in the 7th grade) Mavuolyene Adams ©-- 5-10
Currently injured...I've known her since before kindergarten..she's always been loud, funny, and emotional...and she plays that way. The only probable All-American on the team because she'll be grabbing 10 rebounds a game with ease...and hopefully scoring about 16 as well. She's committed to NIU(Nothern Illinois University)...and the only reason she didn't get to Duke or that level is because of her attitude, and that's a shame....she's been the best on every level since she learned how to dribble...and even put the female player of the year on lock (Amanda Thompson) in the state tourneyment last year...and hopes to follow her in those footsteps.
PG- #22 Brittney (B.T.) Thomas© 5-9
The most athletic person I've ever met... Captain of the volleyball, track, and basketball teams.. voted most athletic female in the school..and has the biggest heart I've ever seen. Gives 110% in everything she does...when 60 would wipe the floor with anyone. She's committed to Michigan State...where I have a strong feeling she'll succed. She's the most college ready on the team...she can play any position you ask her to...well. She's also the only person I've ever seen to break an offensive players ankles. She did a stutter step on defense that was so quick, the girl with the ball like twitched, fell over her own ankles, and dropped the ball for BT to take down the court for an open layup.
SF- #15 Samantha Woods© 6-3.75
The size says it all.....and the fact that with that size...she's playing a 3 should tell you something as well. The most dominate all around player I've ever been witness to. She's an INCREDIBLE shooter....nails about 65%+ from 3....over 90 from the free throw line....and like 70 from the field. Uses her height well, being able to punish the ball inside with a huge amount of moves at her disposal...and shoot over most people. Not to mention she's even handed. Doesn't always show the same heart as the two afforementioned players...esp when attacking the glass....but doesn't need to...she gets the job done very well. Commited to Purdue...where I have a feeling she'll get a National Championship before she leaves. (plus i've been in love with this chick for a number of months lol)
C- #40 Shantina Boyd - 6-2
Stronger than anyone here..Boyd is committed to Northwestern. The worst of the 4, the only noncaptain...is recieving by far the best education...so she deserves some credit for that. She's very strong as I mentioned before...doesn't attack the glass as strongly as she could..and jags sometimes from short range...but by the way the coach rides her in practice everyday...I have a feeling she'll be getting double-doubles all season. Right now she's not doing as well because Mavo is hurt...so she has to take on the burden of rebounding and post all by herself...but she'll do great once she realizes that she doesn't have to go through people all the time. I anticipate a lot of foul trouble early in games which will then lead to her being better rested and dominate at the end of them.
I'm actually really tired...these aren't all our senoirs....not even all our best....but the 4 senoirs with D-1 Scholarships....so I felt they should get first mention..... I'll return tomorrow after practice with the scoop on some of the other girls...
Until then....
